Photo of Rhododendron was taken by me in my front yard. Using a digital camera, I got a good close-up of the flower & you can see the raindrops on the petals which is absolutely beautiful.
Below is same picture but I'm using a java applet. As you can see the details of the flower, with it's yellow flecks in the middle, changes to many different colors.

The Rhododendron maximum, or “great laurel,” is the state flower of West Virginia. It was selected on January 29, 1903, by the Legislature, following a vote by pupils of the public schools. It is a shrub of the heath family and may be recognized by its large, dark evergreen leaves and delicate pale pink or white bloom, mottled with either red or yellow flecks.
Azalea are shrubs of the genus Rhododendron and members of the heath family. There are 8 divisions of the genus Rhododendron. Azalea comprise two of those divisions. Azalea are distinguished by large clusters of pink, red, orange, yellow, purple, or white flowers.
