Iguana's are not easy to house animals. When you first see that cute little iguana in that ten gallon tank at the pet store you need to be prepared. That little baby Iggy will turn into a 6 to 7 ft long "monster". Not only do iguana's grow huge they need huge enclosures. Iggy's LOVE to climb and spend more of there time on or up in something than down on the ground. An enclosure needs to be big enough to house your iguana when its a full 7 ft long. If you don't plan for the full size of your iggy then you will just be wasting money having to build more and more as he/she grows. Not only does the enclosure need to be wide it needs height. From what I have researched you need the size of a small room. The MINIMUM of 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Inside this enclosure you need to provide the right "equipment" for them. In your iguana's enclosure you need to place several areas to climb on, you need to have at least one hopefully more basking spots for them to get under, you need to provide the right temperatures and lighting for them. Temps in the enclosure need to range in the mid 90's under the basking lights to a basic temp of the mid 80's. You have to provide the UVB lights for 12 hours a day to ensure proper digesting of there food. Night basking lights are also helpful in an iggy enclosure to allow them the extra warm spots at night with giving them the moon type lighting at night. Humidity is also another concern, even though iggy's can adapt to lower humidity levels at 70 to 90 %. Misting them once a day helps with this. Your iguana can live up to 20 years so please be preparied for a LIFE LONG commitment to them. Double D's New Enclosure measures Height 5 Ft. 8 inches Width is 4 Ft Depth is 1 Ft 8 inches All though this isn't the full size of a recommend adult enclosure Double D is only 27 inches STL. We will add on to this if she grows enough to need more space, due to her abuse in her begining its questionable how big she will get. For now this is a Palace fit for the Queen she is! |
