WOMEN IN BLACK

OUR VISION: We want a world of peace and tolerance in which the

dignity of each individual is respected.

OUR MISSION:

We stand in public witness to lives and hopes lost due to violence.

We stand in solidarity in our support of human rights and civil liberties.

We stand in support of nonviolent solutions to conflict.

We are committed to actions that:

Sow seeds of peace

Oppose the war against Iraq

Replace U.S. unilateralism with cooperation with the world community

Protect U.S. civil liberties from being compromised by the "War on Terrorism"

You are invited to join us------

any Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Arch (downtown at Broad and College Sts.). We stand in silent vigil and dress in black, symbolizing the tragedy of victims of war and violence. Since mere words cannot express the tragedy that wars and hatred bring, we are silent and hold no signs. If it rains, bring your black umbrella(!)

***Women in Black is an international movement dedicated to seek peace and justice in areas of conflict, and to end violence world wide. Started in 1988 in Israel/Palestine, it has become a movement of women of conscience of all denominations and nationalities who hold vigils to protest violence in all parts of the world. Women in Black received the Millennium Peace Prize for Women offered by the United Nations and International Alert on March 8, 2001 (International Women’s Day).
