New Water Ride Opens On Lake Compounce Opening Day

Bristol, CT -- A new water park attraction and renovated theatre debutted at Lake Compounce when the nation's oldest amusement park opened for the 2005 season this past Saturday, May 14. The new water ride called Anchor Bay is part of an expansion of the water park that is included with admission to the park.

"Anchor Bay is going to be an exciting family water attraction," said Jerry Brick, General Manager of Lake Compounce. "It runs right in front of our newly renovated Starlight Theatre, which we have transformed into a multi-use facility, complete with air conditioning and heating. Now our guests will enjoy entertainment throughout the summer in cool comfort. The ballroom is rich with history, but it needed a 21st century upgrade."

The main feature of Anchor Bay is a new lazy river ride. On this ride guests can float on an innertube as currents carry them along the meandering 800-foot long course. In addition there is also a slide, rock water falls and splash areas in Anchor Bay.

Lake Compounce announced that additional park expansion is already underway, including an exciting new thrill ride in 2006 as well the moving of Mount Vernon Road to allow for even more expansion in years to come.

"We are committed to making Lake Compounce one of the major attractions in New England," said Brick.

Also returning to operation Saturday was Lake Compounce's Boulder Dash roller coaster that was named Best Wooden Coaster in the sixth annual Golden Ticket Awards at the end of the 2004 season. The Golden Ticket Awards, sponsored by Amusement Today Magazine, is a poll of educated and well-traveled amusement park aficionados.

"There is something almost magical about the allure of a great wooden coaster and we've been told by thousands of coaster enthusiasts from around the world that Boulder Dash is the best they've ever ridden," Brick said.
