Formed
three years ago, British rock band Sugarwood have built a well-deserved reputation
as the most exciting and original rock band to rise from the North East of
England. A broad appeal has given the band a large and loyal following. With
well over 500 gigs to their credit they have developed an explosive live act,
and are first and foremost a 'live' band. During their career SUGARWOOD have
made numerous TV appearances. These include regular coverage on Northeast
TTTV, UK cable music channels, BBC Choice and even Scandinavian Music Television.
Live appearances have included several festivals including 'Allensford
Rock & Roots', and University tours of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Durham,
York, Liverpool, Manchester and London. Their previous demos have enjoyed
regular Radio airplay on alternative/mainstream stations in Germany, Holland,
New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, Sweden, France, Spain, Australia and even
College Radio in the USA to name but a few.
SUGARWOOD have played throughout Britain with support slots to
many signed bands (Space, Skin, Gomez, SFA), and recently blew off the doors
on the first showcase night at 'In The City' (Liverpool, UK, September '99).
After catching their show, the legendary American Producer Kim
Fowley went on to tell the assembled industry that SUGARWOOD were
poised to become one of the biggest names in rock. Fowley is a producer and
composer responsible for a string of hits over the past 40 years, with artists
that range from Gene Vincent to Nirvana. He was formerly a member of John
Lennon's Plastic Ono Band and the West Coast promoter for Motown
Records. Fowley's confidence in SUGARWOOD is such that he flew to the North
East of England from his New Orleans home to produce the band's latest album
- 'Devils and Sunlight'. This has not yet been scheduled for release, and
in the meantime the band are promoting and touring their current album 'Smoke'.
