English Department

2002-2003 Curriculum Proposal

English classes will be streamlined to cover standards for the CAHEE.

"Test Prep 1A, 1B" covers 9th grade standards

"Test Prep 2A, 2B" covers 10th grade standards

Curriculum will concentrate on reading, language and composition based upon the new textbook series to be adopted in Fall 2002.

Students will cover all standards and progress as they pass the corresponding Benchmark. Students will receive credit for English 1A-4B, but will be placed in the test prep course that corresponds to his or her skills mastery.

Classes will be split—Ms. Skeete will focus on reading and language; Ms. Raine will focus on writing. Students from all classes will rotate throughout the week. To best utilize school resources, Ms. Skeete will be able to use all the textbooks for her classes; Ms. Raine will set up a computer lab and use writing tools such as the internet essay assessment system to focus on writing.

Students who have mastered the standards and passed the CAHEE will be placed in "Advanced Literature" to further their reading and writing skills, expose them to great works, and prepare them for college.
