Earthly wisdom and knowledge do not avail us of anything apart from God.  If anything we are to subject it to the will of God so that it does not interfere with our Salvation.  The physical being of Jesus, His emotional makeup and His overall physical, intellectual, and psychological stability was nearly torn into shreds in the Garden that night.  He knew that someone would betray Him and that the disciples would abandon Him after He was betrayed. He knew that His intellect and reason were not the order of the day.  He knew that all of history hung in the balance and that He was the One to Whom the Salvation of mankind was given to carry out in a very real way.  No pressure there we might say.  No, the opposite is true.  The pressure of the situation Jesus endured in the Garden is unimaginable to us and is incomprehensible.  None can endure that kind of testing unless the Holy Spirit is with is.  Jesus came to take our place and to be our sufficiency and endured the testing of that for us.  We might be put to a test but He can be there for us so that we do not feel the pain and so that we are not crushed to a final crushing.

The profound spiritual truth of His meaning as a man and as God the Son was to be unveiled, the mystery from before the world began was to be shown to all of creation, the visible and the invisible.  He was yet to be scourged and beaten, insulted and rejected, and made a mockery of in the eyes of His enemies.  The dark forces of the universe anticipated the showdown and anticipated a victory for them.  The dark forces of this world system were given a go at Him and the dark forces of the invisible were let loose on Him.  His sufficiency was in the Father and His Holy Spirit.  It seemed to those that were there as though the plans of God were possible to defeat through Jesus the man.  The defeat of the man Jesus meant to them that mankind would be forever under their dominion unfettered by the constraint of God.  It meant the relinquishing of the sovereignty of God over us should the crucifixion that ended Jesus the man be permanent. The bodily resurrection of Jesus ended that for them.  The princes of this world would not have crucified Jesus had they known Salvation would be revealed to mankind and that the order of things would include a way of escape for those captive to the dark world system.  It was not a case of cognitive dissonance on the part of the invisible forces against God so much as it was not known to them exactly what Salvation might mean and that it always means victory for God and mankind.  They were not clear on that but we should be and we can be.  For us the victory has already been won by God in any situation, victory over anything is in Him.  Jesus gave that to us, the ability to receive that victory, Salvation.  He gave Himself to us, the Way to that Victory, Salvation, God the Father by His Holy Spirit.  The will of the Father is complete in Him.
