G'day there, I call
myself "Sunshine" because I live in the Sunshine State
of Australia. We Queenslanders are also called "banana
benders. "
Queensland has the Tropic of Capricorn running through it so this
makes our days "beautiful one day and perfect the
next", as quoted on the tourist brochures .
I have been married to a wonderful man for 39 years, we have two
sons and two daughters and five grandchildren. Our family
has and always will be our number one in life.
I like crafts of all kinds, have sewed and knitted a mountain of
stuff. I like machine knitting as its much faster for me to
do, have had machines for over thirty years, way before everyone
had a computer. My computer is my favourite hobby
now, love messing around with graphic programs and making
web pages too of course. My grandchildren always know where
to find me, they go to the computer room first. They
reckon Nan is always on the Internet. I reckon why not,
everyone can just get used to that fact. There is a whole
new world out there, the world of cyber space.
Gardening also takes up a lot of my time, we have a big yard full
of trees, shrubs, and all sorts of plants. There was no
garden here when we bought the place only two trees.
The area that I reside in is called the "South
Burnett". A rich farming area famous for
peanuts. The town where I live is about a two and a half
hours car drive from the Capital - Brisbane. The area has
rich red volcanic soil and an altitude of 431 meters above sea
level. This makes it ideal for growing peanuts, maize, navy
beans, olives, dubosia, grapes, and stone fruit. Other
crops are grown as well but they would be the main ones.
The white peanut silos tower above the town and are a famous
landmark. Click on the link to the left to learn more
about the area.
Click on the peanut van icon to buy our world famous nuts
and learn more about peanuts.
The red soil here is about impossible to wash out of white
clothes, so an enterprising couple devised a way to dye clothes
with the dirt, they have a range of mud gear. The emu icon
will take you to their site.
There is beauty all around and we do enjoy watching the wild
birds feed in our yard. It amazes me how brightly coloured they
are, yet so well camoflaged. You wouldn't believe how hard
they are to see up in the trees. |
