THE DANCE
Once, I wore my hair up sleekly,
Safe within my shell, so cool.
Mama warned me,
"There's no love, dear."
Silly me, thought her a shrew.

Have you ever met the devil?
Sure and hot and burning
Blues;
Leads you dancing, madly dreaming,
That his song is just for you.

But you're dancing in the shadows,
And the heat is not his own.
Whispered words and
Muffled bumpings
Are the others he has known.

There are stories within stories,
lies and truth are never clear.
Trust the heat
And, soon you'll  find out,
There's no healing in its sear.
