Size:
Most Green Anoles range in size from 6-8 inches, half of which is tail.
Characteristics:
Green Anoles are an "arboreal" species, which means they spend most of their time high in the trees. Their long, slender toes are specially designed for the purpose of climbing. Anoles can climb virtually any surface, from brick and wood, to metal and glass.
Green Anoles also have the ability to change colors from green to brown or vice versa. This ability has unfortunately lead to their nickname, "American Chameleon." Green Anoles however, do not change colors depending on the color of their surroundings like a chameleon. (See "Stressed Out Anoles" section.)
Because of the Green Anoles' size, personality, and overall hardiness, it is a top pick for beginners in the reptile husbandry.
Distribution:
Green Anoles are the only species of anole that are native to the U.S. All other species have been introduced from other countries. They live in the Southeastern United States.

Distribution covers the entire states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississppi, and Louisiana, parts of eastern Texas, Southern North Carolina, Southern Tennessee, and parts of southeastern Arkansas.
