2002 Retrospective

Dear Friends and Family,

We hitched our wagons on November 22nd of this year. After three years of courtship, we decided that now was a good time to tie the knot. It was a small simple ceremony in the Oakland recorder's office with family present followed by dinner at the Koi Palace. We didn't have an official honeymoon per se, but will be doing a lot of traveling next year in Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

This year was a year of discovery in terms of travel. During the winter, we skied at Banff and discovered the beauty of the Canadian Rockies in addition to mulling over the effects of -24 F degree weather on ski equipment. The summer found us in El Paso visiting Dan's dad and taking short excursions to

Ruidoso and White Sands National Monument, a beautiful desert setting and a preview for our upcoming trip to Burning Man. As some of you may know, Dan's first trip to Burning Man was in 1998 and it was a great experience. This year's event was even better. The economy did not dampen attendence and the art as well as the level of participation was tremendous. The weather this year was very good and the occasional sand storm added to the atmosphere.

Earlier this year, Dan attained his motorcycle license. We promptly rented a Harley and drove around the backroads of Livermore and Orinda during a slightly rainy weekend. Looking back at the experience, Dan's not so sure what he was thinking driving around in that 600 lb machine with so few miles under his belt. It's a testament to the Harley design and drivability.

Dan's still playing volleyball with his team in Alameda and teaching sailing at the CSC. In June, he garnered the option to teach windsurfing by getting his junior rating at the club, but it remains yet to be seen if he can impart anything useful.

Rene recently passed her fifth year anniversary at Peoplesoft. She's currently working on the next generation of their Peopletools product. Dan recently finished his first year with Nonstop Solutions. After much hard work, the company shipped version 1.0 of their retail forecasting software this November.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year!
