Warren
G grew up in Long Beach, CA listening to his parent's
extensive collection of Jazz, Soul, and Funk. As a teenager,
he and Snoop Dogg teamed with LBC companion Nate Dogg to form
a rap trio called Three The Hard Way, which eventually became
213, named after their area code. G sharpened his musical
skills by practicing with 213 in the V.I.P. record store and
producing such artists as MC Breed and 2Pac.
In
1992, G was featured on half-brother Dr. Dre's groundbreaking,
multi-platinum album The Chronic, to which Snoop also made
some heavy contributions. G was praised for his efforts in
producing Mista Grimm's underground hit "Indo
Smoke," one of the two songs he worked on for the Poetic
Justice soundtrack.
In
1994, G established himself as a major force in the Hip Hop
industry when he released his first solo single,
"Regulate." The smash single, a duet with longtime
friend Nate Dogg, and its accompanying album, Regulate…G
Funk Era, both peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts. The
influential album introduced a blend of old-school R&B and
cutting edge Street Rap, which was soon termed "Gansta-Funk."
Regulate…G Funk eventually went quadruple platinum, selling
over six million albums worldwide and earning Warren G a
Grammy nomination along the way.
In
1997, after touring in the U.S. and Europe, G released his
second album Take A Look Over Your Shoulder. The first single,
a Hip Hop cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot The Sheriff"
quickly went gold. The album went platinum, selling more than
a million copies.
1999
brought anxious fans Warren G's third album, I Want It All,
which is certified gold-plus and counting. He also signed a
deal with film mogul Arnon Milchan's New Regency Enterprises
and Joe Regis' affiliated record label, Restless Records to
form his own label, G-Funk The New Millennium 2000. The first
release from the new agreement was Reel Tight's Back To The
Real album, which has received praises for its mix of timeless
R&B, Funk, and Soul combined with classic Rap and Pop
vibes. G is also working on debut projects for Jessica and Da
Five Footaz.
Warren
G's current single from the I Want It All album, "Game
Don't Wait," brings him full circle with his roots as the
members of 213 reunite. The song also features Dr. Dre and
Xzibit.
