Desert Shield/Storm

This picture is one of those that you have permanently burnt into your memory. This is sunrise the morning that we began the ground invasion of Iraq. We were already entering Iraq somewhere north of Raffah when I snapped this picture. I apologize for the image quality not being any better than it is. I wish I could show you the one from my memory, Kodak couldn't adequately reproduce it, even with the aid of 1,000 words.

This is prior to the start of the ground invasion. I believe that this was taken somewhere South of Riyadh (please excuse my spelling of these arabic names if it isn't accurate). My unit was present for the Change of command of XVIII th Airborne Corps Artillery the day that this picture was taken.

We flew out for this ceremony in a Chinook. This is a shot out of the tailgate. The tailgate was down so that we could have a little bit of ventilation.

This is a bedowin that had apparently befriended some of the troops in this unit. The bedowins generally didn't hang around with us and were usually strongly discouraged from doing so when they were so inclined.
