UDINE, Italy - Alessandro Del Piero rediscovered his scoring touch to hit both goals in Italy's 2-0 defeat of Switzerland in their group one European championship qualifying match on Saturday. Del Piero put the Azzurri ahead with a classic striker's goal after 19 minutes, latching onto a pass from AS Roma midfielder Eusebio Di Francesco and sweeping the ball past Swiss goalkeeper Andreas Hilfiker. The nimble Juventus forward added his second and the ninth of his international career just after the hour with one of his trademark freekicks from 20 metres. Del Piero had scored just
once in his previous 17 competitive matches and that was from the penalty
spot. He had not scored for Italy since January and had a very poor World
Cup in France.
