Christian> Howdy JJEE
[JJEE] Hi Christian, I just recently found out about this deal and thought
I'd see what was going on tonight.
Christian> Well it's a little slow
Christian> you missed Chip, but he was having a storm moving in and was
afraid to be on his computer
Christian> Where are you from?
[JJEE] Well, tell me about the history of this room if you can. I think
it's a great idea.
Christian> The history....well
Christian> I ran across the program by visiting Tom Cleeremans Social
Work Chat
Christian> Thought that an adventure-based chat would be worth setting
up since it was free
Christian> That really is the history.
Christian> I've had it set up for about three weeks now...and its still
developing
Christian> Did you hear about it on the AEE list?
[JJEE] O.K.. Thanks. It puts a little perspective on it then. We don't get
to talk enough as facilitators. Yes, I saw it on the AEE web page
Christian> On the AEE web page....hmmmm did not know that Rick put it
up there
Christian> I agree about the talking part....often we tend to be isolated....I
see this as one more way for us to increase communication
Christian> So what kind of facilitation do you do?
[JJEE] I work as a consultant for many different organizations and find
that work days are more about work and not so much about professional development.
Which is how it should be of course--that's why we're hired. I love talking
about my work though and I there's so much depth in EE to talk about.

Christian> Howdy Farley
[farley] hi all
[JJEE] I work at ropes courses with all age groups, in the woods on longer
courses with girls mostly, and doing trainings with businesses and college
groups, etc.
[JJEE] Hi Farley
[JJEE] How do you fit into EE C & F?
Christian> Well I think you have lots in common with farley if I recall
Christian> Don't you work at Girls Inc. Farley?
[farley] what is ee c & f
Christian> What is EEC&F?
[farley] good memory Christian
[JJEE] How do you fit into experiential ed., Christian and Farley?
Christian> Sometimes....I still have it farley...others...well
[farley] Got it
Christian> OHHHHHHHH
Christian> Farley go ahead and tell your story
[farley] I work at Girls Inc. I too work mostly with Girls, unless I am
working with adults. sometimes I get males then
[farley] I use ee to help build communication skills and problem solving
skills
[farley] and of course for fun
[JJEE] Well, that's great farley. So we need a topic.
Christian> E.E. is the guiding philosophy in all my work
Christian> I mostly teach in a university setting at this point
[JJEE] How do you 2 make $ in the winter
Christian> I also do a lot of adventure-based work (which for me is only
a small part of E.E.)
Christian> But it is my real area of passion and the work that I most
enjoy [farley] I am employed full time at Girls Inc. as a program coordinator,
I don't get to do as much EE work as I use to because I am in management
more now. I have to make special date to work with adults and kids just
to get EE in
[farley] We have both an indoor and outdoor course
Christian> Well you suggested a topic, did you have one in mind
[JJEE] A full time, year round job does the trick.
[JJEE] Yes, that was my topic (winter income)
[farley] where do you live JJEE
[JJEE] New Hampshire
Christian> So you are currently in a contract seasonal position JJEE
Christian> Where in NH
Christian> I use to live in the Dublin, Peterbourgh area
[JJEE] I'm a subcontractor, and an independent contractor and live in southeastern
NH
Christian> Near Mike Gass then
[JJEE] He has never revealed the precise town in which he lives to me, but
yes, near Mike Gass
Christian> Mike lives in Durham or a surrounding town
Christian> So are you contracting out mostly as a ropes course facilitator
Christian> or are you more of an OD consultant using ropes courses
>> farley has left channel #Adventure-basedChat
[JJEE] Christian, it sounds like you might do a fair amount of thinking
about how people learn experientially since you work in a university setting
and ee is your passion
Christian> Farley may have gotten dumped for inactivity....the system
does that if you are inactive for some time
Christian> Yeah...I'd say that would be a fair statement. I just finished
my dissertation which focused on the philosophy of E.E. Christian> Is
that an area of your interest?
>> farley has joined channel #Adventure-basedChat
[farley] aol cut me off
Christian> I figured you got dumped Farley....
[farley] Christian I sent you a game you might be able to use for your human
development course. If it doesn't come through write me
Christian> Did you just send it?
[JJEE] Bye farley, maybe he'll be back. I do ropes course work, longer course
work (14 days, etc.) and lots of things in between. It's hard to describe
in a small nutshell.
[farley] yes about 5 hours ago e-mail
Christian> I've got it...just looked at my e-mail...it was the metamorphosis
game
Christian> I've played it and it might work well...thanks
[farley] I don't get to do 14 day workshops should like fun and work-----yes
Christian
Christian> Who do you do the 14 day courses for JJEE
Christian> I've worked for OB for 12 years including a few for HIOBS
(which is why I was in NH)

Christian> Howdy RKS
[JJEE] Christian, I need to get going. I'll be back next week.
[Rks] hello
[farley] I plan on doing an ABC course for girls at the end of the summer.
16 year old.
[farley] hey rks
Christian> RKS it looks like you have come in from Tom Cleeramans social
work site
[Rks] just wondering what this is all about?
[Rks] yes
[Rks] checking out
[Rks] social work chat?
Christian> For JJEE and Farley...this chat room is on two pages
[JJEE] Hi rks. Farley, I've worked summer courses for the Center for Ventures
in Girls Education in Wellesley, MA which runs courses out of Mead Wilderness
Base in Sandwich, NH
[farley] later Christian
TO Rks> RKS....we are actually discussing adventure-based work wilderness
and ropes
[JJEE] Bye all
Christian> Later Farley
[Rks] I see
Christian> I won't be here next week....but you are welcome to show up
Christian> I may demonstrate the Chat at the AEE conference
Christian> Stay tune to the AEE list
Christian> for detailed time
>> Rks has left channel #Adventure-basedChat
[farley] I guess I going for this week later all

[Barton] Hello
Christian> Howdy
[Barton] Nice to talk to you once more.
Christian> You missed a good number of folks
Christian> I think you are number 6 this evening
[Barton] Well I got caught up in writing and the time flew by. What was
the topic tonight?
Christian> Well it never really jelled as a topic...but it began to move
in two areas
Christian> jobs in the winter and professional development
[Barton] Professional development sounds interesting. I will have to look
up the achieves in the future.
Christian> Well as I said it never really jelled as a discussion...so
I'm not sure there is much of value
Christian> I'll look at the archive and see if it warrants posting.
[Barton] ah.
[Barton] I will try to remember to log on the proper time next week.
Christian> Actually I won't be here next week...AEE Conference
Christian> You may want to pay attention to the AEElist
Christian> I might demonstrate this at the conference depending on the
technology available
[Barton] I forgot, these thing tend to rush at the last moment. Have you
heard what sort of numbers might show.
Christian> In fact I think I will post something to the list seeing if
folks would be interested
Christian> I think they may be at 1400
Christian> or was it 1200
Christian> Anyway it looks like it will be a success....which I must
admit I'm surprised by
[Barton] I was hoping to attend but the travel cost were prohibitive for
me this year.
Christian> Yup...the whole thing is very expensive and for us in the
US right near a holiday
[Barton] I do plan to attend in the future.
[Barton] Right Thanksgiving...you do hold it later then here in Canada.
Christian> Yup...yours is really the "correct" time at least
in terms of harvest
Christian> How's the writing going?
[Barton] Well I hope things go well. I hope the list will keep those of
us not present informed.
Christian> It has in the past...someone usually has posted a daily update...if
there are any technology stations it could get better
[Barton] The thesis is plugging along. As well I am finishing a paper on
reflective thought within teaching. I am not certain that I have come to
terms with it. It is so alien from my past thinking.
Christian> Did you check out Roger Greenaway's page on reflective thinking?
[Barton] Actually I have not come across him. Do you have an URL?
[Barton] I could check a search engine.
Christian> It's on my link page under activity pages section...he has
some feedback exercises...but his general page is about reflective thought
[Barton] Right, thank you for the information.
Christian> No problem
Christian> Are you using Shone as one of the primary sources?
[Barton] Yes indeed.
Christian> And Boud as well?
[Barton] As well as David Hunt and Stephen Brookfield.
Christian> Not familiar with those two
Christian> I only touched on Reflective thinking as it relates to E.L.
in my dissertation
[Barton] Hunt wrote Beginning with ourselves. Brookfield, Becoming a reflective
teacher.
Christian> Are you looking at the Inquiry and Action Learning material
Christian> Hmmm....I'll have to look at Brookfield...sounds interesting.
[Barton] Indeed.
[Barton] The point of the paper is to construct metaphors of teaching in
order to gain insight in yourself as a teacher.
Christian> Interesting assignment
Christian> Sounds like some narrative work
[Barton] It has provided material for further thought. Narrative thought
is a primary trend within this exercise.
Christian> Have you done any exploration of Michael White's Narrative
therapy?
[Barton] Rather superficial at this point.
Christian> I've not really gotten into it myself....only in tangential
ways....one of the workshops at the TAPG conference will explore this a
little
[Barton] I do have to leave. Enjoy the conference next week. I do look foreword
for two weeks from now, with luck it will provide points for discussion.
Christian> I'll be exploring with others this technology
Christian> Have a good time
Christian> Bye
[Barton] Leave a note on the list if you do manage to set up electronic
conferencing at the conference. Bye.
