"You mustn't give your heart to wild things. The more you do, the stronger they get. Until they're strong enough to run into the woods or fly into a tree and then a higher tree and then to the sky."
-Audrey Hepburn
I'm new to all of this, so we'll see how this goes. Most anybody who'll be taking a peak here already knows my idiosyncrasies... hyperactive... outdoorsy... entirely too talkative for words... and allergic to boredom. But we'll start a little before that.

About ME... I am a very short 32 year old spunky gal who discovered life after academia. (I'll be nice to myself and call it "spunk", though other people have less nice descriptions for it. lol) It's not that I'm an adrenaline junky, because I'm NOT. In fact, I only tend to go where I can feel controlled risk. ("Control" probably being the key concept here!) I just happen to love being physically active and outside of doors. The further away from "civilization" the more heavenly! My ideal lifestyle, just for illustration purposes, would be sipping marguaritas while lounging in a natural hotspring with a small handful of really good friends, somewhere in the middle of the nowhere, next to some navigable wilderness river or fantastic backcountry skiing slopes, for as many days of the year as possible. I have white-water kayaked for the last 7-8 years, thanks to a great outdoor program at the old almamater. Learned to snow ski  about 6 years ago, through strength of will and tenacity alone. The difference between me and an adrenaline junky... I find that I'm just as ecstatic floating a class IV section as I am lying on the beach somewhere along the way watching a minnow in the current. And I don't really ever care whether the sun is shining or if it's blowing and overcast and raining. It just feels incredibly alive to be out there in "IT". It all symbolizes this incredible inner peace to me. It's not something that I always had access to, so I hoard the feeling jealously! I feel like I've been waiting my whole life to get to this point!

Let see, what else is there...? I have been getting progressively more obsessed with sea-kayaking over the last few years as well, though enthusiatic companions in this area are more difficult to come by in the adrenaline junky circles I run in. I love rafting, wind-surfing, horseback riding, bike riding, backcountry hiking, snow skiing, water skiing, fishing, rock hunting, rock climbing, ice skating, motorcycles, etc... and am usually game to try just about anything, no matter the weather, just so long as the company is good. I have a sister who has promised to go sky-diving with me sometime this year... and a good friend who I intend to have teach me caving sometime this fall. Find out if I like bats, first hand. All in all, a pretty busy girl!
