Comments on 294 - 251: WOW! What a year! That is all I really can say. I have been doing my personal music charts now for since 1997, but I honestly feel like this is my first year. It's probably because this is the first time that my charts have been online. I would like to thank everyone who has made this possible for me (you know who you are). Looking back at these songs definitely is a nice way to remember this year. I could go into a long spell now about how the year was for me, but I will just say that I FINALLY turned 21 in January, so that played into a lot of the music I heard at clubs this year. Anyhow .. let's get on to the comments. 297 songs managed their way onto my charts this year (which includes the last three weeks of 2001 since that is when I started doing my charts). 27 of those songs hit number one. Back in December, the charts started off as a top 20. I then increased them to a top 25 before finally settling on the top 40 in April. This will hopefully explain why some songs that peaked very high have such short chart lives (i.e. A1's "Caught In The Middle" and Melanie Thornton's "Heartbeat" (253)). If I had been doing a top 40 for the whole year there would have been a lot more fluidity with my earlier charts, as my first few months saw a LOT of rapid turnover (as was commented to me many times by a certain someone!). But by summer, my charts slowed down somewhat and began to take form. Well, I should probably explain my points system to you so you aren't confused by it. It's pretty simple to expalin. I just use an inverse points system (1=40 pts, 2=39 pts, etc). The Highest Debut Award ( **HD**) earns a song 25 points. Each Biggest Mover Award ( * *BM**) earns a song 10 points. Each Biggest Faller Award ( **BF** ) takes 10 points away from a song. Every award a song has earned is shown on the charts. If two or more songs have the same points tiebreakers are broken this way: -- The song with the longest chartlife ranks higher
.
(If two songs have the same number of weeks charted, consecutive chart runs rank over non-consecutive.) --If still tied, the song with the highest peak position ranks higher. --If still tied, the song with the most Biggest Mover Awards ranks higher. --If still tied, the song with the least Biggest Faller Awards ranks higher. --If still tied, if one song has a Highest Debut Award, it will rank higher. --If still tied, the song with the largest single week fall will rank lower. Needless to say, this pretty much will take care of almost all tiebreakers. There are however times when songs will have the exact same chartlife (and usually a very short one) and will therefore tie. Ties are marked by asterisks (*). OK! So now onto the charts. The lowest reaches of my charts this year features songs that mostly charted for only a few weeks and/or had very low peak positions. Four songs managed to lodge just a single week on the charts at number 40. This includes Shania Twain, who saw 4 songs chart this year. Her lowest charting single is still on the charts as of 12/28, so it is highlighted. This portion also sees the first appearances of Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Jakatta, No Doubt, and Shakira Among others. There really isn't much to say about these songs .. they either are just getting started on my charts, or never really took off. So let's move on ... |

Comments on 250 - 201: The next portion of the charts features a number of special tracks. Our first number one song is at number 201. It is actually the current number one song by Coldplay, who have anonther track in this section (231). A1's "Make It Good" (220) is a special track as the song spent 8 weeks on the chart without ever climbing into the top 30. On my chart that is pretty impressive! We also see the first appearance by Erasure on the charts. 2003 is probably going to be a BIG year for Erasure as their new album is due to hit the stores in January. For now one of the B-Sides to their latest single makes it in at number 217. Cher makes her first appearance with "The Music's No Good Without You." I honesty never got into this song much as there are many other much BETTER songs on the album, but I got into the remixes of the song enough to rechart the song almost a year after it originally peaked at number 15 last December. If there are going to be any more singles released from her "Living Proof" album, they will surely show up here in 2003! |

Comments on 200 - 176: This section of the year end chart features the final two songs of the year by the Pet Shop Boys. While their 2002 album, "Release," is a good one, I could just never fully get into the singles that were released. If there is going to be another single from the album, I really think it should be "Here" as the song is still my favorite and would definitely do well on my charts. One of my favorite songs of the year that didn't do too well is featured in this section. Aurora (or Aurora UK) stayed on the charts for 10 weeks (two chart runs) without climbing into the top 25. I really loved and still love the song, but there was also just too much competition for it to do well. The top 200 kicks off with the King! This great remix topped the UK charts for four weeks, but couldn't quite manage that level here, but was still one of my favorite songs of the year. This portion also features the first songs by the likes of Jewel, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, and Britney Spears. |

Comments on numbers 175 - 151: This section features the final appearance from Robbie Williams as guest on the number 12 hit for 1 Giant Leap. Jewel sees her second song on the charts for the year with the number 6 "Standing Still." The Minogues are both featured in this porition of the year end charts. Kylie's lowest ranked song of the year was "Come Into My World" (162). While the song shot to number 4 in a rather quick manner, I quickly grew tired of it and the song went tumbling. But never fear for Kylie, she has many more songs to come for the year! Dannii herself had the same problem with "Put The Needle On It" (170). The song quickly peaked at number 5, but then shot down itself. Iio and M2M each make their first appearance at numbers 165 and 154 respectively. Of course Iio was known much more for "Rapture" which we will see later. M2M have to more songs that are coming up so keep scrolling down ... |

Comments on numbers 150 - 126: The number one song in the US this year is featured in the next part of the countdown. Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" was the biggest song of the year here, but could only manage to end up at number 140 on my charts. The song really caught on with me, hitting number 4, but then overplay on the radio really killed the song for me. It was charting over my Christmas break when I was delivering pizza's. Well, when you hear the song every hour on the radio, it's hard not to get sick of it! I still say there should have been a dance remix of the song .. for some reason I can always hear it. Darren Hayes makes another appearance with his second single from his "Spin" album. "Strange Relationship" never fared well in it's first chart appearance because I was mad it was going to be the second single and not "Crush (1980 Me). A remix that appeared on the "Crush" single though brought back the song for another chart appearance. We still have much more to hear from Darren though, so stay tuned. My website got featured on a Five Star site this year cos I was charting "I Get Such A High" (126). I don't even remember how I found this song, but it was definitely one of my favorite songs on the summer. It was funny to learn the group was really popular in the 80's since I had never heard of them. The lowest ranking number one single (not still on the charts) comes in at 134. "Drowning" charted fairly late for me, but debuted at number one, only to fall off after two more weeks on the chart. This was back in the beginning of the year when my chart turnover was RAPID. Oh, one more odd note .. song number 133 earned 133 points this year ... how cute! Anyway, let's keep going ... |

Comments on numbers 125 - 101: As we come up to the top 100 songs of the year, there are a couple of gems that didn't quite chart as well as they should have. Of course it is a big surprise to see "Can't Get You Out of My Head" at number 109 for the year. This will probably be in almost everyone's elses top 10. I really do love this song, but I fell in love with the song back when it was first charting in the UK in the fall of 2001, so when it finally hit here in the US, I had known the song for a while. Therefore it only managed to hit number 12. Don't worry though .. the singles after that did MUCH better! Speaking of the Minogues, little sister Dannii is featured with her last chart appearance for the year. The number one hit "Who Do You Love Now?" debuted at number one, but fell quickly, taking biggest falller honors twice. This was, as I have said MANY times, back when my turnover was rapid. LOL I am starting to sound like a broken record with that. There was almost a tie between Simple Minds and Hoobastank. Both songs (105 & 104) peaked at number 11 and stayed on the charts for 10 weeks. Luckily Hoobstank earned Biggest Mover Award once and settled the tie. Speaking of Hoobastank, the band played at my college this fall. Didn't see them, but thought I would mention it. Ok, well let's get down to the top 100! |

Comments on numbers 100 - 81: The top 100 songs of the year kicks off with the first appearance by Marc Anthony. His 2002 album, "Mended" was not a big success in the states, but produced two top ten hits here on my chart. We will see his second hit later. Only 25 points separates numbers 100 and 81. If you think about it, that's not really a lot. Just a single week at number 16 or a Highest Debut Award would have driven any of these songs up the chart. Things are going to get a lot closer as we move up the charts from now on. Two more number ones are featured in this portion. Both songs debuted at number one, one after the other, and then quickly fell down. During the fall, I had another surge of rapid turnover at the number one spot. It seemed that from March on, I would have surges of songs quickly take the top spot and then have one song claim it for a long time. Only time will tell if this trend continues. Moby makes his first appearance of the year at number 83. His 2002 album, "18," was not as successful as I would have wished. I don't own it, but I'm sure I will eventually. LOL But "In This World" is a classic Moby track and definitely deserved of it's top 5 hit status. Madonna's only chart hit for the year lands at number 91 for the year. While the song did manage to hit number 5, it's chart life was kind of disappointing. "Music" produced two (more if I had been charting the whole time) top 20 hits, one of which hit the top 5 (WIFLFAG). I am anxiously awaiting a new album and no doubt that 2003 will be a big year for Madge! |

Comments on numbers 80-61: Kelly, Kelly, Kelly ... We hard this said by Randy Jackson EVERYTIME he ever gave her comments. Anyway, 2002 was the year for American Idol (although it was a rip off of Pop Idol from the UK and the countless Idol show across the world!). I saw every episode except one and am really excited for the next season to be starting up, although nothing will compare to the original. Ok, so the winner, Kelly Clarkson, managed to hit number one with her first chart single. Still waiting for her album to come out, so hopefully there will still be enough of a buzz to send it to the top of the charts! (Oh, and personally, the best singers on that show were Angela Peel ... who's version of "Run to You" was the best performance ever on the show! Also, EJ Day was amazing ... yeah so the kid was a little ugly, but he could sing better than any of the other guys!) 2002 was the year for Avril Lavigne (74). Whether or not she was a puppet of the record company, she was fresh and original. Now there are about a million of her! This year was all about solo females who actually wrote and played their own instruments. Some of these would include Christina Aguilera (65 - well .. she does now at least co-write her stuff!) and Vanessa Carlton (80). Carlton quicky hit the top 5 on my chart with her debut hit, but then as US radio picked up on it, I turned it off! Only one song form 80 to 61 missed the top 10. This was Zero 7. Their song "Destiny", which was acutally a hit in the UK in 2001 managed to rack up 12 weeks and only peak at number 12. This section also features more appearances from Kylie and Cher .. who we will see more of soon ... |

Comments on numbers 60-41: Plenty of great music fills the section just outside the top 40. Erasure manages in just seven weeks to rack up enough points to rank number 47 for the year. Their latest, "Solsbury Hill" (a cover of the classic Peter Gabriel track) spent three weeks at number one in November. This would have been a definite contender for the number one spot if only the song had not charted so late. This one should probably make the top 100 yet next year. If I had to make a guess, I would say that Erasure has a good chance of being the artist of 2003. But that all depends on how many singles get released from their latest album, "Other People's Songs." As female pop is shifting, it's former queen is going in demise, well not here at least. Britney still managed to have 2 huge hits this year, including a number one from a film that was so bad, it was good! LOL The Doves two simultaneous hits almost charted side by side this year, but instead sandwhiched Cher at numbers 48, 49, and 50. Only one song this year that wasn't english charted. "Moi ... Lolita" by Alizee was a very fun dance/pop song that was in French. The fact that I didn't understand the words really didn't matter as I liked the song instantly. The track peaked at number 7 and spent 10 weeks on the charts, landing at number 54 for the year. My absolute favorite song of the year is featured in this part of the charts. 2002 was the year for Darren Hayes and "Crush (1980 Me)" was my favorite song from him. This one would have easily ranked much higher, but was not released as a single until after I had grown tired of the song. This really is a major problem my favorite artists face. If I go out and buy an album, I will be less likely to like a song when it finally gets released as a single because I've been listening to it for ages. Anyway, let's move on to the top 40 songs of 2002 ... |

Comments on numbers 40-31: The top 40 for the year kicks off with the song with the longest chart run without ever hitting the top 10. 2002 was definitely a good year for The Coors. "When The Stars Go Blue," their duet with Bono, managed to rack up 15 weeks on the chart and only make it to number 13. Oddly enough the rest of the songs in this portion either hit 1, 2, 4, or 10. Very funny occurence. Daniel Beddingfield definitely "got through" 2002. His biggest hit of the year lands at number 33 on the year. 2003 should be a good year for him too as his latest is currently in the top 10. Name change or no, there was no mistaking Liberty (X) in 2002. Their biggest hit was actually a sleeper hit from the summer that finally took off once I was back in school in September. Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars" (33) was probably THE best video of 2002. It was funny and smart. Great job Moby! One of my favorite TV shows of the year was "Maybe It's Me." I discovered the show on it's premiere and never missed an episode. It was a bit of a teeny show, but was written by the same people who write "Fraiser." Anyway, the show's first theme song, "Everything UR" by Lindsay Pagano lands at number 38 for the year. The second theme song for the show was "I'd Do Anything" by Simple Plan, which is currently rising the charts. Unfortunately the show was cancelled after it's first season. Too bad too cos the show was GREAT! Ok, back to the music ... |

Comments on numbers 30-21: All the songs in this portion remained on the charts for 11 weeks or more. What is amazing about some of these tracks though is that many of them did it without even hitting the top 5. Duncan Sheik made a nice comeback this year with "On A High". The song barely squeaked it's way to number 10, but managed to stay on the charts for 15 weeks. Norweigan artist Morten Abel quickly went to number 7, but then managed to hold on to remain on the charts for 16 weeks with his big hit "You Are The One La La La." Brandy also pulled off a similar feat, hitting number 8 and charting for 14 weeks with her very seductive "Full Moon." This was the year that brought us a wedding and a baby from the former teen star turned mommy and wife. One of my favorite dance songs of the year, Lucas Prata's "Let's Get It On," was discovered at promoonly.com. This is a great site to discover hot new music that is being released to different radio formats. If I had not heard of the song from there, I would have never charted it. Needless to say .. you have to be willing to search for your music. Darren Hayes's number one hit "Insatiable" lands at number 27 for the year. Unfortunately the former Savage Garden singer was unable to launch a successful solo career in the States. Worldwide though, he was definitely more successful. This single hit number 8 in the UK. Alanis also had a number one hit this year. "Precious Illusions" probably wouldn't have hit number one without the cool video or my relationship stress I suffered over the summer. For those of you who don't know about it ... you're probably better off! Now on to the top 20 ... |

Comments on numbers 20-11: The top 20 kicks off with what is easily the best ballad of the year. I didn't see "Moulin Rouge" until this March. Because of that "Come What May" reappeared at the number one spot. This was truely one of the best ballads to be released this year (although I think it was released in the UK in late 2001 .. whatever!) Two songs this year in the top 20 are still on the chart accumulating points. "Help Me" by Nick Carter far outdid Justin Timberlake's solo efforts. This one was a slow chart riser for me, but eventually hit number three. This song is currently at number six and if had charted earlier might have made it to the top 10 for the year. The other song is "My Vision." This dance smash was atop the charts for an amazing five weeks back in October/November. The song still is in the top 40 after twelve weeks. This one too would have probably made top 10 if not for cut offs. Speaking of dance smashes. I will always remember 2002 for the club anthem "Heaven." The Bryan Adams remake by DJ Sammy was my favorite song to dance to when ever I went out to the clubs. And boy did I dance to this one a lot ... even in foam once! LOL I know, TMI! Usually cover songs don't do well on my chart, but Jennifer Paige managed to score the number 15 hit of the year with her cover of the track "Stranded," which was originally recorded by Plumb. And though boy bands seemed to be falling out of the mainstream this year, boy group LMNT (element ... I didn't realize that until someone told me!) still managed to have a number one hit with "Juliet." Now this song is super cheesy, but sometimes it's super cheesy songs that really make an impact on me. Who needs to be serious all the time? Cher makes her final appearance this year, just missing out on the top 10 at number 11. "Alive Again" had the longest chart life of the year (well, she tied with two other yet to be named songs). 18 weeks actually isn't all the long for me to chart a song. Back in 1998, "This Kiss" by Faith Hill managed to spend 30 weeks inside the top 20! I don't think there will ever be a song to enjoy that long of a chart life though because I was charting that song without actually hearing it for a bit because it was before I had internet. Anyway, let's get into the top 10 for 2002...!!! |

Comments on number 10: Jennifer Lopez had a pretty amazing year in 2002. She released three movies (two of which I saw with my J-Lo fan Megan), and two albums. This one charted on the Metro Mix which was a hit on the Billboard Dance Charts and was one of my favorite dance tracks of the year. This song had a pretty impressive chart run for the fact that it didnt even get into the top 5: 10(HD) - 9 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 9 - 16 - 16 - 13 - 9 - 9 - 7 - 8 - 15. The song fell off the charts at a very high position which kinda suprised me. I really just got sick of the song rather quickly. The track managed to log 9 weeks in the top 10, and spent all 14 in the top 20. Go J-Lo! Hope your marriage to Ben is your LAST! |

Comments on number 9: I knew the first time I heard this that it was going to be HUGE! Monica incorporated Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T." into this song. Unfortunately, it never really took off in the US and her latest album has been delayed a few times. I don't even know if it is released yet or not. But on here the song had a very healthy chart life: 15 (HD) - 9 - 7 - 6 - 6 - 7 - 14 - 5 - 5 - 7 - 11 - 20 - 18 - 29 - 33. "All Eyez On Me" racked up 8 weeks in the top 10 and 13 weeks in the top 20. All and all, ALL of my eyes were on Monica in 2002! |

Comments on number 8: This song was released in 2001, but I didn't discover it until this year. This was supposed to be Tiffany's comeback, but unfortunately it proved not to be. That is really a shame because this song is really good. Both in it's original form and in it's remix form (I can't remember the name of the remix and am a bit too lazy to look it up) this song is excellent. It also had an excellent chart life: 19(HD) - 12 - 17 - 22 - 11(BM) - 4 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 6 - 5 - 12 - 16 - 18 - 38(BF) - 40. The song managed to earn all three awards, rack up 6 weeks in the top 10, and 13 weeks in the top 20. Hopefully the US can get over the mall queen image and finally give Tiffany a chance in 2003! |

**NUMBER ONE** "I've Got You," Marc Anthony **HD** |

Comments on number 7: There was a big controversy surrounding this song for me. The first version I heard was the version I charted, which was incredibly dancy and was just an all around GREAT song. Then there was what I liked to call the "latin" version of the song, which pretty much sucked! Unfortunately, his record company decided that the "latin" version was to be the one that was used in the video and sent to radio. BIG mistake because the song bombed and I think that if they had sent the more pop/dance version to radio, it would have had a much better chance on the charts. On my charts the song instantly debuted at number one and had an incredible chart life: 1(HD) - 2 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 7 - 8 - 8 - 8 - 11 - 20 - 25. "I've Got You" managed to spend 10 weeks in the top 10 (6 of those in the top 5) and 12 weeks in the top 20. I definitely "got" Marc in 2002! (Now if only I had a little mustache like in the got milk ads!) |

"Don't Say Goodbye," Paulina Rubio **HD** |
14 |
2(2) |
4/27 & 5/4/02 |
467 |
Comments on number 6: As latin music died down in 2002, Paulina squeezed one last drop out of it. Her debut english track, "Don't Say Goodbye," debuted at number 2 on my chart and stayed near the summit for what seemed to be forever. It was definitely one of my favorite songs of the summer of 2002. I remember waking up at 5 am for work this summer (yuck), turning on MTV, and seeing this video. Unfortunately the video for this song was pretty lame. Paulina's album hit number 11 in the states, this song peaked at the dreaded 41, and her follow up "The One You Love" somehow managed to chart on the Hot 100. On my chart, the song charted 2(HD) - 2 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 4 -10 - 17 - 29 - 40. She racked up 11 weeks in the top 10 (10 of them being in the top 5!) and 12 weeks in the top 20. It didn't quite give her enough points to make the top 5 of the year, but is the highest ranking song that didn't hit number one. I hope we won't be saying goodbye to Rubio in 2003. Now, on to the top 5 ... |
5 |
**NUMBER ONE** "Love At First Sight," Kylie Minogue **HD** |
16 |
1(1) |
6/15/02 |
488 |
Comments on number 5: The top 5 for the year kicks off with the comeback queen herself! 2002 was all about Kylie Minogue. She finally made her comeback in the States this year with the number 3 album, "Fever." It's first single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" peaked at number 7. This was the third UK single and second US single. Unfortunately for the US, there was a remix of the song that was given out to radio stations (the Ruff & Jam radio mix) that I thought absolutely sucked compared to the original. Luckily, some stations opted not to play it and play the original instead (like my home station!). This is probably still my favorite song off of "Fever." It's Kylie's highest ranking song of the year, charting: 22 (HD) - 18 - 7 - 5 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 4 - 4 - 11 - 21 - 32 - 25 - 35. All in all the song racked up 9 weeks in the top 10 (8 of those in the top 5) and 11 weeks in the top 20. What's odd about this chart life is that it actually sorta resembles a "normal" chart life of a song, where the song climbs up the chart and then drops. Usually songs on my chart debuted high and then plummeted like in the UK. Anyway, as you will see soon, Kylie dominated the charts this year. You go girl ... no, I mean it .. you GO girl (nice Margaret Cho reference there!) |

**NUMBER ONE** "Everyday," Agnelli & Nelson **HD** |

Comments on number 4: I almost didn't quite discover this track. The song (newly remixed for 2002) was a top 30 hit in the UK. Usually, I try to download all of the new top 40 single from the UK each week, but don't always succeed in that. Luckily I did with this track. I honestly still don't know if I charted the new or old version. But that really doesn't matter. This track actually knocked Kylie out of the number one spot when it debuted at number one in June. This is one of those "sad" dance songs that I like so much and end up writing a lot of songs like. If you still haven't heard this, you should give it a download! It charted 1(HD) - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 3 - 4 - 7 - 9 - 17 - 13 - 23 - 26 - 40 - 40. The song spent 4 weeks at number one, 10 weeks in the top 10 (8 of those in the top 5), and 12 weeks in the top 20. At the end of it's run it managed to spend 2 weeks at number 40. That doesn't happen too often on my charts, but occasionaly I'm not quite ready to get rid of a song. Ok, on to the top 3! |
3 |
**NUMBER ONE** "Rapture (Tastes So Sweet)," Iio **BM** |
16 |
1(4) |
12/15/01 to 1/5/02 |
503 |
Comments on number 3: The top 3 kicks off with the first number one when I started doing my charts again at the end of 2001. I didn't give this song Highest Debut honors simply because with my first chart, there really wasn't a "highest debut." It was more of a continuation than a new chart. That didn't stop the song from staying at number one for four weeks. This one was number one for the year for a LONG time. Actually until about mid-summer was when it was finally overtaken, and then recently it slipped down to number three. Even if Highest Debut points were added, it would still be number 3 for the year. It charted: 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 9 - 11 - 14 - 15 - 18 - 9(BM) - 12 - 15 - 15 - 15 - 23. It spent 7 weeks in the top 10 and 15 in the top 20. This song was charting when the charts were only 20 and 25 positions. I think that if I had been doing a top 40, the song would have spent a few more weeks on the chart. But never the less this song still holds a high place in my heart for 2002. They have finally come out with a follow up that is currently charting and should be ranking high in 2003. |

**NUMBER ONE** "Ghosts," Dirty Vegas **HD** |
18 |
1(6) |
8/3 to 9/7/02 |
537 |
Comments on number 2: The runner up spot for the year goes to Dirty Vegas, who were known in 2002 for their hit "Days Go By," which was used in the Mitsubishi advertisement. Well, this was the follow up to that. "Ghosts" took a few days to grow on me, but then I couldn't stop playing it. This is another song I could call a "break-up" song. Definitely felt comforting to listen to it. This was also what I call a "midnight" song (songs that are great to listen to when it's dark out and I am relaxing). "Ghosts" has the disctinction of having the longest CONSECUTIVE run at the top of the charts. Six weeks atop the charts was a long time to spend this year. My all time longest consecutive number one stay was "Break Your Heart" by Natalie Merchant (the song went on to repeak at number one for one more week). This song charted: 1 (HD) - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 5 - 13 - 14 - 19 - 24 - 19 - 22 - 22 - 22 - 24 - 34. The song only spent 8 weeks in the top 10, all in the top 5, and 12 weeks in the top 20. What helped it reach number 2 for the year was that it held in the top 25 for 17 weeks. The song was looking to be going downhill when it rebounded from number 24, rose to number 19, then held at 22 for three weeks. If not for this, it would have surely not have done as well. All in all 2002 was a great year for Dirty Veags. They had a lot of success, not only on my charts, but worldwide. OK, now the moment you have all been waiting for ... the number one song of 2002 is .... |

**NUMBER ONE** "Lazy," X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne **BM** |
18 |
1(6NC) |
4/20 & 4/27, 5/18 to 6/8/02 |
583 |
Comments on number 1: I discovered this one from it's inclusion on "Now 51", which is how I also discovered Iio's "Rapture" (one "Now 50"). The song peaked at number 2 in the UK and also did well on the Dance Charts here in the states. Here is how the song did on my charts: 18 - 1 (BM) - 1 - 3 - 5 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 6 - 5 - 6 - 6 - 15 - 18 - 34 - 40. The first time I heard the song, I could just tell I was going to love it. The only thing I had to get over was the vocal from ex-Talking Head David Byrne. It honestly annoyed me a little at first, but then I began to like it a lot. The video for this song was also very clever, depicting a man who was so lazy, he had robots he controlled by remote doing everything for him. In the video, the robots go bezerk and he resorts to eating a candy bar off the floor rather than walking 5 feet and grabing his breakfast. Anyway, back to the song. Upon first listening, the song entered at number 18, but then immediately caught me and shot to number one, taking Biggest Mover Awards for the week. It stayed at number one for 2 weeks, but then fell. In this time "I've Got You" and "Juliet" both had stays atop the charts. I then really regreted moving this song away and moved it back to number one. It remained there for four weeks until Kylie finally knocked it out of the top spot. It then stayed around in the top 10 for 5 more weeks and then left the charts a few weeks later. All in all it spent 6 weeks at number one (longest total chart stay at number one with "Ghosts"), 10 weeks in the top 5, 13 weeks in the top 10, and 16 weeks in the top 20. The only unfortunate thing I guess I can say about this song was that they couldn't follow it up. Their next single "I Want You Back" was not really my taste, and didn't chart at all. I'm afraid we might be looking at a one hit wonder on our hands, but you never know. Anyway, that's my year end countdown for 2002! The links below are more charts for Artists Awards and Song Awards. Make sure to check them out. Just think in another 52 short weeks we get to do it all again. As I said before, thanks to everyone who made 2002 such a memorable year, with or without the music! Happy 2003! |
