| To most people on the outside, the world of gardening seems very sedate or civilised and to some they regard it as a hobby for the elderly or retired, an attitude which really does need to be addressed. The truth is somewhat different, snobbery, jealousy and ageism abound in horticultural circles. During the 20 years in which I have been cultivating, collecting and learning about plants I have observed all of the above, and at times I have found my enthusiam for plants dented by some of the people and experiences I have encountered. As I currantly cannot afford a therapist to exorcise me of my horticultural inner demons and pet hates , the articles which will appear on this page will reflect my own personal opinions and thoughts. I do have a rather cynical approach to most things in life and that extends to the horticultural world. Some of my thoughts may seem opinionted, but I write what I feel and I hope it reflects my passion and enthusiam for plants and is not just an attempt to be confrontational or controvertial. Maybe you'll share my feelings or like me have seen at first hand the less pleasant and selfish nature of certain aspects of gardening, and I hope you will find my writing informative or thought provoking .
