A: Kami came to the guardian of Earth, asking if he could take the throne. The guardian told him he had an evil side of him, that must be released. With intense training, Kami released this dark side, which was Piccolo Daimao. Piccolo Daimao started destroying the Earth, until he met up with Goku. Goku flew right through Daimao's stomache. In order to preserve himself, Daimao coughed up an egg, which contained the Piccolo we know today.
