The Book List
Here is a list of books to read that I give to new seekers of the craft:
Adler, Margot. Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers, and Other Pagans in America Today (Boston: Beacon Press, 1979, again 1986).  This was the first book I read.

Apuleius, Lucius. The Golden Ass.  Translation by Robert Graves (New York: Farrar, Straus & Young, 1951). You may have to order this one through the library, or trusted book store.

Cunningham, Scott. Truth about Witchcraft (Minnesota, St. Paul:
Llwewllyn Publications).  Great book to give to family members who are wondering about you.

Farrar, Janet and Stewart. What Witches Do, The Witches Bible, Vol. I, II (New York: Magickal Childe, 1985).  Very informative, the chapter on 'ethics' is worth the price of the book.

Fortune, Dion. The Sea Priestess (New York: Weiser, 1978). There has been many novels by this author but not as empowering as this one.

Gardner, Gerald B. The Meaning of Witchcraft (New York: Samual Weiser, 1959).  A good book to start out with.  The father of modern
day wicca.

Graves, Robert. The White Goddess (New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1948, 1966).  A very important book to read.

K, Amber. True Magic. The chapter that reads about picking a teacher is worth the price of this book.

Leland, Charles G. Aradia: The Gospel of the Witches. (Phoeniz Publishing Inc., 1990). First published in 1890.  The father of modern
day witchcraft.

Murray, Margaret A. The Witch-cult in western Europe (London: Oxford University Press, 1921, reprint 1962).  Another starter book.

Valiente, Doreen. An ABC of Witchcraft Past & Present (New York: St. Martin's Press, 1973).  This is a great reference that to this day I still use!

Weinstein, Marion. Positive Magic; Occult Self Help (Custer, Wash.: Phoenix Publishing Inc., 1981).  One of the first books I read when starting out.

This is the Authors-that-whatever-they-have-written you should read list:
Cunningham, Scott (1956-1993) There hasn't been one thing that I have read by this author that I did not like or strongly disagree with. His works are very easy to absorb. I lament his passing and the thought of no more works from him, but will rejoice at the many fine works that he left behind!

Valiente, Doreen (1922-1999) A beautiful soul can be felt through her works. I have talked to people who have had the previlage to speak to her that comment on how wonderfully fasinating she was - very down to earth.

Grimassi, Raven (1951- ) I will have to admit that when I read my first book by Raven some parts brought tears to my eyes. The 'real' history of witchcraft that is throughout his books are worth the entire collections of this wonderful sage.
