| TOP QUESTION = How do I see anything? It keeps asking if I wish to download something from Geocities and if I want to open or save it. The files for the campaign are currently in Word 6.0 format. This means they are .doc files. In order to see them you must have a program that can open Word documents. I hope to sometime convert them to txt files, but that's when I get the time. The files are relatively small, and if you select open, they should open right there. My advice would be to right click on the link to the documents, and open them in a new window/browser. You can also save them to a disk or hard drive if you so desire (most are under 50Kb in size) and scan with a virus checker if you want to set you're mind at ease. 1. What is this page? This page is a place which provides adventures that were created using my homecampaign, and that I decided to make available for the public. It is useable with the Core Rule Books of the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition ruleset. You can use that set to play through the adventures, or you can adapt the ruleset to my own homecampaign rules, which are taken off of DragonLance Adventures, and run a homebrew DragonLance Campaign. You should also be able to use the DragonLance rules released from Sovereign Press for the D20 game system with these adventures. At the time of the writing of this, the Gamebook from Sovereign press has not been released, but it is thought that since these adventures were made for a D&D 3rd edition homecampaign, that they should be compatible with other D20 games. 2. Why is everything in text? This page has only a limited bandwidth of transfer a month. To make the adventures available to a higher amount of people it has stuck to a more straightforward presentation that takes up less information in the transfer. It also does not include the maps, as graphics take a lot more space than text and documents when transferring information over the internet. 3. All treasure is listed in Steel Pieces, what about Gold? Steel Pieces are the equivalent to Gold Pieces in the World of Krynn. If you wish to run these adventures in a location other than Krynn, it is advised that you change the names of the cities, and the differing orders (Knightly and Wizardly) to your own tastes. Steel Pieces can be replaced for Gold pieces as treasure. 4. What is it with the huge amounts of Experience handed out at the end of the Adventure These Modules are placed in the campaign under Low Level to High Level Adventures. For a group that wishes to play straight through the campaign without any side adventures, they will need the experience to get them through. The end experience is to make it possible for that party to level up quickly enough to make it through the campaign playing straight through. If the DM plans on having the party play other adventures then it is not necessary for him to hand out the end experience at the end of each adventure, but he should make sure that players are of high enough level to survive before having them play the next adventure through. 5. Does the party have to be of the suggested level to play through the adventures? Of course not. A higher level party should be able to play from beginning to end without problems. On the otherhand, a lower level party should not start off with an adventure that is more than they can handle. If a party is above the suggested level for play (whatever the Dungeonmaster decides that will be), they should not gain the experience listed as the adventure completion bonus at the end of the module section they played. 6. Where is the treasure in the later adventures? It is given that the city of Palanthas and Vlandigorn can provide you with what is needed within reason. The Knightly orders and the Wizards of High Sorcery can provide you with Cash if Your Dungeonmaster deems it necessary. 7. The Modules seem rather short. These are part of a Campaign. The Campaign as a whole should take you a while to get through. It is a fast moving Campaign, with gigantic amounts of Experience handed out to keep players that are into story interested, as well as those who are more interested into leveling up their characters interested as well. 8. The Modules seem rather long In my opinion Length is not a bad thing. The speed with which the Modules move will be variable depending on how well the Dungeonmaster guides the game, and how involved the players are. 9. The Enemies in the Higher level campaigns are extremely tough. This is because these adventures are meant for High level adventurers. Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition made the Monsters much stronger in later levels. Players should find it a challenge to get through, if they are breezing through, make the monsters have a greater intelligence. 10. What is the Rangers of Taradoin system? It is a game system put out by Sean-Robert Shaw. It has two books, and hopefully soon a third book. These books are. "The Rangers of Taradoin" "The Rangers of Taradoin:Cuneral Larinon and the Scions" and the hoped for third book is "The Rangers of Taradoin:The Heritage" 11. Why did you include it in your adventures? The Rangers of Taradoin system is played by my group as well, and we have found that we enjoy it's customization and different approach to gaming immensely. I thought it would be a good plot hook for my players, as well as allowing them to transfer their characters from one game system to another so they could continue playing with the same characters. 12. Should I try the Rangers of Taradoin game system? How do I get it? If you are here, I would guess that you are here because you either like D&D3rd edition, or DragonLance. These alone should occupy much of your time. It is hard to play several systems at a time. However, if you have a driving desire to investigate it, I would first suggest you see more about Sean-Robert Shaw's writings (links are on the main page to his pages concerning Lone Wolf and a world called Magnamund), if you like what you see there, than you may wish to buy his books and start playing the Rangers of Taradoin. However, if you are a player, be aware that you will probably play what your Dungeonmaster wants you to play, and if you are a Dungeonmaster, the players you have currently probably wish to continue playing Dungeons and Dragons, unless they are the type that go out for experimenting with new game systems. 13. Should I try the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition? Why didn't you include RoT versions of the game? These game modules were created using the Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition, and not the Rangers of Taradoin. I have included a way to play the RoT system in the modules, at least slightly, as well as including a combat system for them. Bonuses to attack and damage can be applied as WS and Dm in RoT, and Defense can be equivocated to AC. Health and Life should be used conjuntionally. This will make the Lower level adventures a breeze for any RoT group, however the higher level adventures should still remain a challenge. 14. How about D&D 1st or 2nd edition? Can I use these? This will also take a lot of work, but, by simply subtracting the AC from 20, and the BAB bonus from 20, you can get the 2nd edition AC and Thaco numbers. Other numbers should remain the same, and for Experience, instead of handing out experience for monsters killed, you will have to go with the End of the Module/Adventure Experience points. In order to make it more feasable however, the Dungeonmaster may choose to double low level adventure experience gained, to multiply the Experience gained at medium levels by 5, and the Experience gained at high level by 10. 15. Why do you have a link to a Diabetic shop on your DragonLance page? I know of several young people which are diabetic. As this IS a personal page, I have added this link. Unknown to many, Diabeties is a very serious ailment, but it does not have to be the end of one's life. There are candies that taste quite good, and even a type of sugar, that people can eat, and enjoy. Sure, they should not eat normal candies, or even high carb products, as these can be very harmful to any diabetic, but there are many companies that are candy makers and treat makers that now cater to the diabetic. This link leads to a friends page that has information concerning diabeties, and enables diabetics to buy candy they can enjoy in a healthy fashion. 16. Why are the other links there? These are links that I believe may be of particular interest to anyone who plays RoT, D&D, or DragonLance. 17. Will there be any more adventures coming? I will be posting as I can. My time is limited, and so as I develop adventures for the group that I currently DM, I will post new adventures, until it is time that the group moves on to a new campaign. 18. How long have you been playing RPGs Almost nigh 20 years. 19. What is your favorite RPG? Actually, it would be a toss up between a gamebook series called Lone Wolf, and a two way tie between the Rangers of Taradoin (once one understands how it works), and my own homebrewed rules campaign setting for 1st and 2nd edition Dungeons and Dragons set in either The Forgotten Realms or Dragon Lance. 20. Are you Sean-Robert Shaw? How do I contact him? No, I am Harold Shaw, or as I fondly go with in a group sometimes the Palin Majere, or if we're into Star Wars, the Luke Skywalker of the group. Good Luck at contacting Sean. If you have anything you wish to tell me however, since I sometimes do do work for Sean, especially on his webpage, I can be located at DragonLance3rded@yahoo.com I don't check my mail that often however, so sorry if I'm a loooooong time in answering. Hope you enjoy the page and the adventures. |
