| Welcome to the Big Top! | ||||||||||||||
| For a child who may have never been to a circus this is an exciting way to show them what it's all about. This setting is also one in which the children can really get involved in creating. I've used a parachute as the "big top". I hung it from the ceiling using fishing line. It's strong and not easily seen so it doesn't take away from the effect. On the floor I've used foam puzzle squares, just to give it colour. The props can be as varied as you would like them to be. I've made a ring of fire with a hoola hoop. Wrap masking tape (sticky side out) around the hoop. Red, yellow and orange tissue paper triangles stuck to the tape act as fire. I also have another hoola hoop as the "main ring" I've made a lion and tiger mask for the kids, although, they will make their own with paper plates and yarn. I've also got clown hair and a nose. Some small soft balls for juggling are out, as well as a skipping rope taped along the floor as the high wire.....with of course a parasol....wouldn't want to fall. As a final touch, I've got balloon animals made for the clown to hand out. (Just remember, balloons are a choking hazard for the younger kids so if your group is younger, leave that prop out. This setting will be extende with the art projects the kids do. |
