The latest round of increases in traffic fines explicitly for the purpose of increasing revenue formalizes what a lot of us have been saying for years. That is, traffic citations and their accompanying fines have little to do with public safety and much to do with revenue generation.
Unfortunately, this confirms that, in the eyes of our politicians at least, police officers are not public safety officers, they are revenue agents.
