The Dylan box set SACD's are pretty good. Visions of Johanna sounds totally amazing, especially with the 5.1 Dolby surround. Leopard-Skin Pillbox is killer, the electric guitar (a Telecaster?) is so twangy and brassy and metallic. Okay brent mydland is underrated.. "I will take you home" is simply beautiful.

Alexander Mitscherlich was a brilliant man, a doctor, psychologist, writer and a kind of social prophet. As a German citizen, he defied the Nazis with the same courageous spirit and vigour of Sophie Scholl and "The White Rose" movement, except he survived.

"Society Without the Father" and "The Inability to Mourn." should be mandatory reading for anyone alive today. Especially the kids. Anything for the kids...

Aloha and Mahalo it is so awesome to have been in Kona and Kapalua'hei this week. It is so nice to want to be close to genuine people who exude kindness and virtue. Honolulu and Waikiki await. Let me crazy.

It rained today. What does that mean?

Been reading Goethe's
Italian Journey (Et Arcadia in ego). His journal-style prose draws me in by its passion for all the basic things in the world people seem to either take for granted or not appreciate in the least. The enthusiastic, exploratory tone is set immediately as you begin to feel the resonance of the poet's unpretentious, unadulterated delight in the indescribably beautiful sights and sounds of nature: majestic mountain ranges, propitious winds guiding his sailboat along the waters, the stunning diversity and timeless beauty of the flora and rock formations (Goethe was an amateur botanist and geologist), the tranquil songs of birds. And the sky, always the sky, in the splendour of its changing moods and colors. In his encounters with the wonderful Italian locals, Johann is alternately awestruck and amused but never reproachful or infelicitous. In all situations, the anonymous traveler evinces respect and empathy for the people and their culture.

It is indeed man's unfortunate desire to appropriate the things in nature for his own selfish purposes which blinds him. There are spiritual delights to be discovered by communing freely with nature. For I too have marvelled that something as simple as a breath of fresh mountain air accompanied by the sight of icy fjords could send me into such raptures...God is an Artist of the highest order. Cezanne understood this: "Art is a harmony parallel to nature."

My niece is adorable, with fresh pink cheeks and eyes which speak tender innocence. I love her. A little baby fat is cute, more than okay. Inger, I love you. I love you!
