Chapter Eleven Pretty soon, everyone was back at the table and we were talking and laughing as we ate. Carly was telling everyone how AJ had kept swinging his hips instead of keeping them stiff as he danced and the look he gave her made everyone laugh. Just then the caller announced a square dance and my sisters and I pulled Kevin, AJ and Nick out of their seats and onto the dance floor, while two local females pulled Brian and Howie along with them. The guys were looking helpless as we moved into our separate groups and I smiled at them and shouted, “Just listen to the caller. You’ll do fine.” We promenaded, turned to the left and right, bowed and circled. Whatever direction the caller gave, we followed. I smiled encouragingly at AJ when our eyes met across the floor and he and Carly came together, bowed and moved back into the circle. When the music ended, the room erupted with cheers and whistles and we all made our way back to the table for a quick rest while the band took a break. “I told you, you’d be fine,” I said when we all seated. Ten minutes later, the band started a slow two-step and Kevin took my hand and led me to the dance floor. My pulse kicked up as he pulled me into his arms. Dancing in his arms was better than I had originally imagined that afternoon. There wasn’t an inch of our bodies that didn’t brush against each other as we moved to the slow beat. Unconsciously, I moved my hand from his shoulder to the back of his neck and laced my fingers through his long silky dark hair. “Cassie,” he whispered close to my ear and I pulled back to look into his eyes. The green depths seemed fathomless, and I felt like I was floating in a sea of green. His lips slowly lowered to mine and brushed them gently. I moaned softly, just loud enough for him to hear, as he moved his head slightly, adding pressure to the kiss. His tongue traced over the rim of my lips and my jaw dropped to allow him entrance. He moved slowly as he ran his tongue over my teeth and then dipped in further to find my tongue. They swirled together, stroking and caressing, stealing my breath and leaving me wishing for a more private place. Reluctantly, Kevin pulled away and our eyes met. “Let’s go for a walk,” he whispered. I nodded and with our hands clasped, we left through the back door of the barn.
