Chapter Four

Howie and Kat knelt for another prayer before standing to exchange their vows. The crowd of family, friends and business associates that sat in the pews was silent, waiting for Howie to begin.

“Kat, the love of my life. It seems to me that we’ve been a part of each other’s lives forever. And we have, even after we graduated and moved on with our lives, I still thought of you. When we met again at the reunion, something told me that I’d found what I’d been looking for, and I had. I found you.” He paused to take a breath, his gaze going to their joined hands where he held the ring at the tip of her ring finger.

“You’re the light of my life. You bring sunshine to even the most cloudy of days. I feel so very fortunate to have you in my life."

"I loved you then, I love you now, and I’ll love you for always. I promise to walk beside you through life. I promise to stand beside you, encourage you and love you. I promise to support you with your hopes and dreams. I vow to honor and cherish you and the love that you’ve entrusted to me.”

Kat’s eyes pooled with tears and even though she tried hard to keep them from spilling, one single tear slid down her cheek. Howie leaned forward and kissed the tear away as he gently squeezed her hands. “I love you Kat.”

Kat took a deep breath as she turned to Kelly and took the ring. She smiled softly up at the man she loved as she placed the ring at the tip of his ring finger.

“Howie, my childhood friend. I used to lay in my bed and dream of what it would be like to walk through life at your side, and I have to say that those dreams don’t come close to comparing to reality."

"You’re my friend, my lover and my husband. You make each day worth living for. Your beautiful smile is so precious to me. The way you care and love and share that love with me makes me thankful that I’m now becoming your wife.” Kat paused, staring into Howie’s eyes, finding the courage to push the tears back.

“I promise to love, honor and cherish you. To walk by your side and support you wherever life takes us. I promise to hold your hand in good times and in bad. I promise to hold close the dreams you share with me and I promise to do my best to see that they come true. You are my life Howie and I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Kat felt an immense joy well up as the wide gold band slid to the back of his finger, marking him as hers for the rest of their lives. They were well and truly married and she couldn’t hide her smile, or love she felt for him. She stared up into his eyes and promised once more, “I love you. Always have, always will.”
