Chapter One Katherine "Kat" Warner stepped off the plane and made her way into the terminal, searching the crowds of faces for her best friend Kelley Martin. She spotted her standing off to the side and made her way over to her. "Hey Kel" she exclaimed as the best friends hugged tightly. "I'm so glad you decided to come. The ten year class reunion of 1991 of Edgewater High wouldn't have been the same without you" Kelley said as they made their way to the baggage claim. Kat and Kel were totally opposite in apperance and likes. Kat was 5'3" with shoulder length dark brown hair with natural red highlights she had inherited from her grandfather. She had almond shaped hazel eyes, that always seemed to sparkle. And she was full of creative energy. In high school, she was a memeber of the drama club and the school choir. Kel on the other hand was taller than Kat by four inches, with medium length sandy blonde hair and green eyes. She was very athletic, captain of her high school basketball team, and her track and field team. But despite their differences in likes, the two women had become friends when they first met each other in the begining of their freshman year of high school, when Kat's family had moved to Orlando. No one knew Kat like Kel, as a matter of fact Kel was the only one that knew that Kel still had a major crush on classmate Howie Dorough. As they grabbed Kat's bags, Kel said, "You'll never guess who I ran into the other day," Kel paused to let the suspense build. Unable to control her excitement any longer she blurted, "Howard Dorough." Kat stopped right where she was, unmindful of the people who were pushing past her. "Please tell me you're not joking" Kat pleaded. "No I'm not joking. We talked for a few minutes and he asked if you were going to be at the reunion. You should have seen his face when I told him you were going to be there" Kel said with a giggle. "Oh God, you didn't tell him did you?" Kat asked, fearful of what her friend might of said in her exuberance. "Kat, I'm hurt. After all this time you honestly think I'd divulge your secret." Kat let out a sigh of relief. "Well sometimes your tongue tends to run away with you when you get excited" Kat felt the need to remind Kel. By then they were out in the garage putting the bags in the trunk of Kelley's car. "Let's get back to my place and you can settle in" Kel said as she pulled out of the airports garage. Katherine stared at the passing scenery as the car flew down the highway. Not much had changed since the last time she'd been home. She slowly drifted off to sleep as ten hours of work and the three hour flight caught up with her. "Kat, Kat come on, wake up. We're here" Kel said shaking Kat awake. "Hum? Oh okay" she mummbled and then unhooked her seatbelt. They walked up the stairs to the front door and Kel let them inside. "You know where everything is, so just make yourself at home." After she had unpacked, she went downstairs and found Kelley watching MTV. 'I Want It That Way' was on and Kat plopped down on the couch. "Sometimes, it's really hard to think of him like this" Kat whispered. "I know exactly what you mean. He doesn't look like he did in high school." A picture of Howie in high school flashed through Kat's mind. His hair had been short then, his face hairless. He had such a baby face in high school, in his senior picture he didn't look older than thirteen years old. "He definately has matured" Kat said, coming back from her reminicesing. "I think you've got it as bad now as you did then for him" Kel said with a smirk. " Can I help it if I have excellent taste?" Two hours later, they were finishing up the last of their dinner when Kat asked, "So, what is the schedule for the reunion this weekend?" "Tomorrow, there's a gathering at Matt Campenella's, then Saturday is the reunion at the Convention Center. Sunday, there's a bunch that have plans to hit Disney for the day, but we can do whatever" Kel answered. "Sounds like a plan to me. You really think he'll show up?" Kel didn't even have to ask who she meant, she knew. "He said he was going, he'll be there." Chapter Two Back to index Back to main page |
