Chapter Fourteen At one o’clock that afternoon, Harry Withers was released from police custody. Unbeknown to Harry a police tail was placed on him, following his every move. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Billy banged on the door to Heidi and Nick’s room, impatiently waiting for it to be opened. “What is it Billy?” Nick asked as he let Billy into the room. “I just got a phone call from The Firm. They confirmed that their computer system has been hacked into several times over the last few months. Nothing seemed to have been taken, and no viruses were detected so they didn’t think anything about it. When I called last week, they said they’d get right on it and amazingly they were able to track the hacker,” Billy said, his eyes gleaming with untold information. “Who?” Heidi asked, dispensing with the accustomed politeness. “None other than Harry Withers,” Billy informed them. “The police put a tail on Harry when they released him and they’re keeping him under tight surveillance. As long as you stay with a bodyguard you should be safe,” Billy warned before leaving them alone. Heidi and Nick looked at each other, their fears shining in their eyes. “Oh Nick!” she whispered as she moved into his arms. “I’m scared,” he admitted as his hold tightened on her. “So am I.” They sat together in silence with their arms wrapped around each other. There was nothing left to be done. All they could do now was wait. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ An hour and half later, Nick and Heidi were getting ready to leave for the venue. Tension was high and both of their nerves were on edge. They both could feel the danger; as if it was something they could touch. “Just stay with me, and you’ll be okay,” she said, trying to assure both him and her. Nick nodded, but remained silent. He had this terrible feeling in the pit of his stomach that something bad was about to happen, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake the feeling. Ten minutes later, the car Nick and Heidi were riding in was stopped in heavy traffic. Nick tapped his fingers nervously on the door handle and wished that he were already at the venue. The heat in the car had caused rivulets of sweat to run down his face and onto his neck, even though the air conditioner was running at the highest capacity. He pulled at his collar and sighed in relief as the traffic slowly began to move. A few minutes later, the car pulled into the back parking lot of the venue and Nick climbed out of the car and began moving towards the door, Heidi following close behind. As they stepped into the building, the cool air swept over him, immediately cooling his sweat soaked skin. “Man that feels good,” he said as he looked up at the vent above him, letting the air-conditioned air blow in his face. “I’m heading on down to the dressing room,” he said without turning to look at Heidi. “I’m afraid you’re not,” a chillingly familiar voice said from behind him, just before something hit Nick in the back of the head and everything went black.
