Chapter Four Liz woke hours later, hearing voices outside her door. She stumbled to the door and opened it. In front of her stood Kevin's friends, debating whether or not to wake her. "Uhm guys, I'm awake. What's up?" she asked sleepily. "Its almost time for Det. Doyle to arrive. You have to go down and get her when she gets here" Brian reminded her. Liz shook her head to clear the remants of sleep and asked, "How much time do I have?" "About an hour," Brian answered. Liz nodded and stated, "I'm going to take a shower. Give me a few and I'll meet you in Kevin's room." The guys nodded and Liz closed the door. She walked over to the phone and called down to the front desk. "Yes, my name is Elizabeth Connor's and I'm expecting someone around four this afternoon. Will you please notify me when she arrives? Thank you." Liz then hopped into the shower, letting the hot water soothe her aches and pains. 'If only it was this easy to get rid of my suspicions' she thought as she finished rinsing off. She turned the hot water off and let the icy spray hit her, waking her up. She stepped from the shower, dried off, dressed and added some make-up to hide the dark circles under her eyes. Grabbing her room key, she left her room and walked next door. Brian answered her knock and Liz entered the room. She noticed Kevin sitting up in bed, looking much better than he did earlier. "Sleep well?" she asked as she laid a hand on his forehead. The guys thought it was extremely funny to see someone mother Kevin and fought hard to keep their snickering to a minimum. Especially after Kevin shot them all a dirty look. "I slept fine, did you?" he asked. "I could've used a couple more hours, but I'll live" she said, flashing him a bright smile. Kevin returned it, thinking God must have been watching over him when he stumbled onto her porch last night. Liz walked over and opened the connecting door to her room so she could listen for the phone. "I assume you've met these guys" Kevin said with a wave of his hand in his friends direction. "Met yes, introduced, no!" Kevin laughed and began the introductions. "I know you know Brian, the tall blonde in front of the TV is Nick, the scarry looking one with the tattoos and jewlery is AJ." AJ shot Kevin a dirty look and Kevin laughed. "And the one with the pony tail is Howie." "Hi guys. Its nice to finally have names to go with you're faces!" she said, smiling at each of them. "Guys this is my rescuer, nurse and guardian angel all rolled into one. Liz Connor's." The four guys smiled at Liz and they went back to what they had been doing. Nick was playing his PlayStation 2, AJ was biting his nails, Howie was reading a book and Brian went back to pacing. "Why don't we let this air out for a while? It'll help it heal faster" Liz said as she removed the bandage. As she moved to throw it away, the phone in her room rang. She ran to grab it and answered on the third ring. "Hello." "Miss Connor's, A Det. Julie Doyle is here to see you" the desk clerk announced. "Thank you. I'll be right down" she said and hung the phone up."Be back in a few" she called as she left her room. "She seems nice" Howie said, laying his book down. "Yeah, and she realy seems to know what's she's doing. She's taken care of you, and got us organized when you two first got here" AJ added. "She's something alright. You know, she's terrified of blood, but she managed to clean me up and bandage my arm. You should've seen her, calm, cool, collected...that is until the adrenaline wore off. She almost passed out on me when she realized what had happened" Kevin said with a light chuckle. The guys laughed, not quite able to see the confident Liz they were coming to know, cringing at the sight of blood. Meanwhile, Liz stepped off the elevator and walked to the desk. "Miss Connor's, this is Det. Doyle" the desk clerk said as he indicated a woman a year or two older than her, with auburn colored hair standing at the end of the reception desk. "Do you have any identification?" Liz asked the woman, with a sly smile. Det. Doyle handed Liz her badge and offered, "Call Det. Duncan's office. He'll verify I am who I say I am" Julie said as they stepped onto the elevator. When the door closed, Liz turned to Julie and said, "Thank God you're here. The whole situation is a mess." Julie smiled and slung her arm around Liz's shoulders. "We'll work it out. Don't worry about it" Julie assured her. The elevator stopped on their floor and they stepped out, Julie following Liz to Kevin's room. Liz knocked and said, "Its me. Open up." Nick opened the door and stepped back so the women could enter. Liz introduced everyone, and then they quickly got down to business. After discussing their options, they decided that Liz's place would be the best place to use. They also decided that for now they would tell no one where they were going. Within the hour, the seven were packed up and on their way out to Liz's farm. |
