Chapter Seven Governor Trey Davenport arrived in the early morning hours with the head of Florida's swat team, Adam Boland, and the head of Florida's Drug Enforcement Agency, Brad Perry in tow. They quickly got down to business going over the evidence that Mattie had collected. "This is exactly what we've been trying to stop. Look at the payouts and payoffs these cops have overlooked, and taken in. This is outrageous" Trey said through clenched teeth, his anger reaching the boiling point. They discussed possible plans and when it looked like they weren't going to use Liz and Julie, they protested loud and long. "I know you want to be there, but..." "There is no buts about it. We're going. Mattie gave her life for this and we're going to be there when those animals are brought in" Julie stated, using a tone that brooked no arguments. "Adam, they should be there. They've worked with these cops. They know them and how they'll react" Brad said trying to ease the papable tension in the room. "Fine, but they only help bring in the dirty cops, no one else. Is that clear?" he asked, using the same tone Julie herself had just used. "Clear" Julie and Liz said in unison. "Then let's get packed up. You'll be the guests of the Great State of Florida and yours truly. My private jet is waiting at the airport" Trey said. As everyone was leaving the room to go pack, Kevin stopped in front of Trey and said, "Thanks Trey. I owe you." Trey smiled and said, "No you don't. This is my job. But for what its worth, Your welcome." An hour later, they climbed aboard the Governor's jet and everyone relaxed as the plane took off. They arrived at the Governor's mansion later that night, and Adam and Brad went over the plan with Julie and Liz. Exhausted, they put the plans away until the morning and headed for bed. Around four in the morning Liz woke, her mind racing with thoughts of her sister and the upcoming events. She knew it would be the hardest thing she'd have to do in her career. No cop ever enjoyed arresting a fellow officer, but these three deserved it. Thoughts chased each other around in her head and in frustration she climbed out of bed and slipped her robe on. Seeing the starry night through her balcony doors, she stepped out onto the porch that wrapped around the second story of the mansion and inhaled deeply. She let her eyes sweep over the imaculate grounds, and the peaceful night relax her. "Couldn't sleep either, huh?" Kevin asked as he stepped from the shadows. Liz turned and smiled up at him. "To much on my mind tonight, I guess." "That's understandable, considering" he answered as he moved to stand beside her. They stood silently beside each other and Kevin couldn't resit the urge to put his arm around her. Liz sighed in contentment as she leaned into the warmth his body offered. It was an unconscious move on her part, but Kevin knowingly pulled her closer. Startled, Liz tilted her head up and looked into his green eyes, that were illuminated by the moonlight. She stood amazed as his eyes changed almost emerald in color. Kevin leaned down and gently brushed his lips across hers. "Kevin" she sighed breathlessly. He brushed her lips again, this time lingering, letting the pressure of his lips on hers speak for him. She turned slightly in his arms and returned the kiss, answering every move his lips made. "Let me hold you tonight" he whispered. All Liz could do was nod. In the back of her mind, she knew this probably wasn't the best thing to do, but she needed human contact right then and she needed it from this man. Kevin led them back inside her room and over to the bed. Once Liz was settled, he climbed in and pulled the covers over them. Liz nestled her head on his chest and Kevin held her close. "Close your eyes Liz and sleep. I'll be here when you wake up" he whispered. Liz allowed herself to relax against him, letting her fear of the morning slide into the night. Feeling that relaxed for the first time in days, her eyes closed and she slept. The following morning, Liz woke in Kevin's arms. She smiled as she watched him sleep. A flutter of emotion spread through her body and settled in her heart. She didn't even try to fight it. She knew it would be useless. This one man had turned her life up-side down, and she was falling for him and falling hard. Feeling his eyes on her, she looked up. "Good morning" she whispered. "Morning" he returned and then pulled her up for a good morning kiss. The kiss deepened as he traced the outline of her lips with his tongue. Her tongue joined in the dance, teasing and dueling with his. They heard the other's begin to stir and broke apart from each other. "When this is over, I'd like to take you to dinner" he stated softly, hoping that she wouldn't turn him down. She smiled and gently kissed his soft lips. "I'd like that" she said and then moved to get up. "Be careful." Liz turned and looked at Kevin. "I will be. I don't intend to miss that dinner date." Kevin smiled as he watched her disappear into the bathroom. After breakfast, Liz, Julie, Brad and Adam went over the plans one final time. "Everyone understand?" Adam asked. They answered yes and began strapping on their bullet proof vests. After checking her gun, Liz slipped it into her holster. She had already checked her extra weapon and it now rested securely in her ankle holster. They walked out of Trey's office and met Kevin and the guys in the hall. Adam and Brad went ahead, giving the seven a few minutes alone. Kevin pulled Liz to him and kissed her hard, ignoring the shocked gasps from the onlookers. "Be careful. Dinner has been planned." Liz smiled up at him. "You guys stay safe. We'll see you tonight" Julie said. Without a backwards glance, the two sisters followed Adam and Brad out the door and into the swat van. "Hollister is first. He'll just be getting home when we get there. Then Morris. When we go for Duncan, be careful, he's got a temper and he can get mean" Adam restated. Liz took a deep breath and let it out. Clearing her mind of everything, she concentrated on the mission. The dark blue non descript van pulled to the end of the street. The occupants inside intently watched as Hollister parked his car. The vans door slid open and the four law enforcers walked up to Hollister with their guns drawn. "Officer Hollister, your under arrest for taking kick backs and paybacks from the Juarez Cartel. Anything you say can, and will be held against you in a court of law..." As Brad continued to read Hollister his rights, Liz smiled triumphantly. 'One down, two to go' she thought as she settled herself in the van. Morris' arrest went just as easily, but she knew, they all knew, they wouldn't be so lucky bringing Duncan in. |
