Don't let the Microsoft logo on the front of the DC fool you. The Dreamcast ain't no PC when it comes to online audio and video. OK you're reading the latest news at the ODCM website and see the words 'Download Movie'. Great, you'll see a preview of the latest game in action! Well don't bother. These are DC no-go areas known as "MPEGs" - free digital video clips available to PC users to download from the web.

It's not that the Dreamcast can't handle Full Motion Video - any DC gamer would testify to that. The first problem is that in the absence of a resident hard drive there's simply not enough room to store the hefty downloads which usually run into many MegaBytes in size. | ||||||||||
| Also .mpeg files are incompatible with the DC's browser software DreamKey. But hey! That doesn't mean you can't view movies on your Dreamcast with it. | |||||||||||

Disconnected? Good. Now, make a 'COPY' of the following (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C):-
Now open the Left Trigger again. This time select 'JUMP' and replace "http://" with the copied message (using 'PASTE') then hit 'OK' - to jump about! |
| I bet you didn't know that was there! The SEGA manual doesn't mention it. Try it again but this time use the Joypad. The 'Y' button is PAUSE, 'START' resets the movie and 'B' QUITS. |
| You'll be pleased to learn that that was a Dreamcast-friendly MPEG known as an "MPEGsofdec" specially encoded, and loaded from the DreamKey disk. That's why it'so quick to appear even though it's full screen and lasts an entire minute. |

In fact the capacity of Dreamcast GD-ROMs is a lot greater than that of regular CDs. So much so, that the browser software counts for just a fraction of the DreamKey disk: |
