I Still Stand

I have come this far by faith

and though the road has been long

and the way dreary,

I still stand, in the hollow of God’s hand,

sometimes becoming weary.

I have sometimes wondered if I would live to see a new day,

but I still stand, because God has been my light in the darkness,

always showing me the way.

I have endured setbacks, heartbreaks and

my world collapsing and crumbling before my very eyes,

but I still stand,

without the need to know the whys.

I have been totally broke and

couldn’t pay the next bill,

but I still stand, living in full assurance

that I’m in the center of the Lord’s will.

I have been hated, despised and cursed by

those feebleminded folk, who wished to see me in an early grave,

but I still stand, alive and stronger than ever,

because Jesus saves.

I have been stabbed in the back, not by enemies,

but close friends, but I still stand,

because my God will stick with me to the end.

I have been threatened and in danger,

because of a so-called saint,

but I still stand, and think of the song,

everybody talking bout heaven ain’t!

I have been told that I would never amount to anything in this life,

but I still stand, rising above the doubters,

living free from petty strife.

I have done all I know to stand,

and sometimes I have been down for the count,

but I still stand, waiting on my Lord

and with the wings of an eagle I mount.
