This breed used to be called the "Toonie", a name taken from "tun", the Norwegian word for farm. Thus the Toonie was the farm dog whose work place was the Shetland Islands of the north-east coast of Scotland.
His job was to control small flocks of sheep and to watch over toddlers while playing on the farm.
To this day the Sheltie displays a strong sense of boundry making them very popular as a family pet and will fit almost any accommidations
Shelties have a STRONG DESIRE to please making them easy to train. |
