Al and I were both regulars on Saturday Night Live. The special guest this week was none other than Mr. John Lennon. There was only one problem-we were having major problems during rehearsal with one sketch, so the director had decided to film it beforehand and just stick it in when it was broadcasted.
Al and a nice guy called Curly were out on stage, pretending to try and advertise pizza cutters. John and I were backstage, waiting for our cue.
“Take one!”
As Al and Curly hold up the pizza to cut it, Curly messes up his line.
“Take two!”
As Al and Curly hold up the pizza to cut it, Al drops it and it lands near his feet. They get a new pizza.
“Take three!”
As Al and Curly hold up the new pizza to cut it, Al steps forward and slips in the old pizza. Sauce and cheese gets all over his shoes, and the new pizza lands on the floor. The janitorial staff is paged, and they clean up the stage while Al scrubs his shoes.
“Take four!”
Al and Curly hold up the third pizza to cut it. Finally, it is time for John to go onstage. He grins at me, strolls out on stage, and delivers his line. “When I cut pizza cutters-“
“CUT!”
The director quietly goes insane as the camera crew go on break. Al, Curly, John and I shrug and go over to the craft services table and have a snack.
