I was auditioning for a play. This was not just any play, though-this play already had one character cast. The actor? Al! To audition, we had to play Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung on a toy accordion of Al’s. This wasn’t so much to get the part, because as we got to the audition we discovered that Al had amnesia. We were to play the song to convince him that he was, indeed, a famous parodist. I played it perfectly, and his memory snapped back like a rubber band. I was given the part of Al’s mom. Grinning from ear to ear, I ran home and told Mom, who asked me how large the part was. It was the female lead! I hugged my thin, orange script as I asked Mom for pictures of her and me so that I could research motherhood. My Take On It Next Dream |
