PICTURES & POETRY FROM THE HEART OF A DREAMER |
WHO IS THIS DREAMER? Well...this one looks like, and IS, a very ordinary woman...but one who will never stop believing that life, no matter what hardships or sorrows it deals out to us, is a wonderful experience! My name is Barbara, but I am known to my online friends as VENUS ;-) I was born and raised in southwestern Ontario, Canada 61years ago. I have been married for 43 years, and together my husband and I have been blessed with four great kids, now all grown and flown from the nest and busily raising our ten wonderful grandkids. As a proud grandmother, I have earned spoiling privileges with regard to the grandchilden, and I make the most of them, although their "Papa" is the real expert in the spoiling department. Early in 1998 I purchased my first computer, something that I'd dreamed of having for a long time. Since then a whole new vista has opened up to me. It meant saving a lot of Loonies & Toonies (for those of you in the rest of the world, our Canadian $l.00 & $2.00 coins) but since I hate shopping anyway, it was a labour of love and only took me a year to accumulate enough to purchase "my baby". Now I can't imagine a life without it. I love to chat here online and I've come to know so many great people from all over the world. Friendships that have been forged through the magic of the Internet have become as special and precious to me as any I've made in "real time" throughout all the years of my life, and it's been especially wonderful to meet several of them in person. Since I got my first inexpensive camera at age 14 by saving points selling powdered drink mixes from a mail-order company, I've loved to capture things going on around me through the eye of a camera lens. I think sometimes that my family and friends are convinced that I was born with a camera attached to my hand. Although I wouldn't dare to call myself a photographer, I love to take pictures of anything and everything, many of which I shall be using in conjunction with the words I have written and present to you on these pages. It is my wish that as you read my poems and thoughts, perhaps you might see a tiny bit of the thread that binds us all as human beings travelling through this time and space together. Although much of my poetry is written from a first-person perspective, most is a composition of the experiences that others have shared with me over the years. Perhaps you might even see a bit of "you" in them somewhere. If you do, then I will know that I've accomplished a way to be your voice in some small way when you may not be able to find the words yourself. In conclusion, I would like to take the opportunity to thank my friend RAY (chatname - OldCan(M)) who took me under his wing to teach me, by way of online tutoring, how to actually make this computer work. Without his assistance and encouragement, all of my work would still be buried in a cardboard box under my desk. THANK YOU, RAY! *HUGS* I owe you a debt of gratitude that I doubt I can ever repay. And THANK YOU, my reader, for taking out time from your busy schedule to visit my site. If you've enjoyed reading my work, I hope you will drop back many times to visit me as the site continues to grow, and if you've just a little more time, please take a moment to sign the guestbook on any one of my pages. May God bless you this day and every day... |
