Since time travel is instaneous, the time is almost nought, ie. 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000..............................1, a number too small for my calculator. This means that the energy used by the Flux Capacitor is huge, tending towards infinity.
Flux
Flux is to do with electromagnetism. It's measured in Webers (symbol Wb). Flux lines exist in all magnetic objects. They are line on the e.m. (electromagnetic) field. The Earth has its own flux lines, hence we have North and South poles. Now, if you cross these field lines with a wire, a current is induced (or caused). in the wire because a voltage is produced. Link that wire into a circuit ie. with a bulb and you can power that bulb by simply crossing or "cutting" the flux lines. That is basically how generators work. A magnet is rotated within coils of wire. The fluxlines of the magnet pass through the wire and you produce an induced current.
I believe that the De Lorean passes through the earth's flux lines. The faster the De Lorean drives, the more flux lines it cuts per second. This generates more voltage and therefore more power. The Flux Capacitor stores this voltage and once the De Lorean hits 88mph the power stored in the capacitor is released in a tiny amount of time. This is used to start a nuclear fission reaction in the Plutonium. This generates 1.21 GW of power, which are then fed as an electric circuit around the exterior of the De Lorean. The huge amount of energy creates an opening in the space-time-continuum and the car travels through time. Don't forget though, time travel is instantaneous!! There are probably a few bugs in my theory, but it is sort of touched on in the film, "Besides, the stainless steel construction made the flux dispersal...." "This sucker's electrical... but I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 Gigawatts.." |
