You Will Remain Safe In My Heart
Part 2 : Partners
'Saeko, I know you don't want a partner. But you cannot work alone! Are you listening to me?
- Yes, Father.' Saeko was bored. Each tiimme she had to come to the plolice headchief's office, he always summoned her about that. She had only one partner: Hideyuki Makimura. He was the only one with whom she could team. He was not only a very good policeman but also a very sensitive person...
'I'm NOT your father here! We are at the office, not at home...
- Yes, Sir. Please, pardon me. And about hher?' Saeko tried to change the subject.
'She is a member of the german police and she is here to learn about our investigation methods. In fact, she belongs to the german secret service and she's working on the same case as you. She'll come on tuesday. And she will be your partner. So you won't be working alone in this difficult and dangerous case.'
Japan had an international reputation for its electronic goods. But some societies were specialized in manufacturing and selling electronics for terrorist purpose. Most of these societies were owned by yakuzas, so it was difficult for the police to get informations. Only people of the underworld could come to know what was really going on. Fortunately for Saeko, she could relay on her former partner, Hideyuki Makimura, and Ryo Saeba. Both were City Hunter.
Saeko Nogami had been working in this case for a long time. But, alone, she could get no results. That is why she requested their help. But by the time Tanya Kalisz would be her partner, Saeko wondered how to contact City Hunter without Kalisz to know about it.
If only she could arrest the gang before Kalisz arrived !
In her line of job, partners are more than friends. They look after each other, share their feelings, believe in each other.
With Makimura, everything seemed easy. She relied on him. Sometimes, she had the feeling that he was doing all the job not to endanger her. From the very first sight, she knew she could trust him.
And she also knew she could trust no one as she trusted him.
Sitting under a majestuous tree of Shinjuku's park, Saeko was still lost in her thoughts. The gentle spring breeze caressed her face and her silky dark hair. The flowers around lightly perfumed the air as the sun was going down.
She did not hear the footsteps.
Maybe because she knew there was nothing to fear.
A calm and soft voice called her name and her preoccupations vanished.
'Sorry, Saeko. I'm late.'
- I'm glad you could come. Did you get my message?
- Yes. You don't need to worry about your new partner. I'm sure everything will be all right.
- You are always optimistic, Hideyuki. >
- No, just realistic.' Hideyuki rectified..
It was completely night, now. The park was almost empty, enlightened by the moon, only witness of their hearts' silent dialog.
'Damn, Saeko ! I'm here to help you and you're teasing me ! I should have stayed with Nanako. She is a great mokkori-chan ! So nice, so sweet...
- Her name is Sanako, not Nanako.' correctted Hideyuki. 'No ! Na- Na- Ko ! She whispered it in my ear ! So softly... Ah, Nanako ! I wish I were with you... Eh, Saeko, don't you want to whisper your name in my ear ?'
Ryo approched her with feline movements but was soon stopped when a knife came caressing his throat.
'Here they are' informed Makimura.
A dark colour car, all lights off, made his way through the darkness and stopped nearby. Four men rushed into the old building. A fifth man remained on the pavement. Soon after, another car turned the corner and a man came out carrying a suitcase. The two men greeted each other and entered into the building. But before Ryo, Saeko and Hideyuki could approch, the house exploded ! The cars were flung far and wide. Then flames consumed the building, preventing Saeko and Hideyuki to help the victims.
They felt helpless.
In the confusion, Ryo was the one to notice the form escaping from a neighbouring house. Without thinking anymore, he ran after him. He had the feeling that the fugitive had something to do with the explosion. He didn't want to hurt him but only to catch him so that he could explain the why of all this.
Ryo was faster than the fugitive. When arrived next to him, he jumped at him and they both fell heavily on the pavement. Surprisingly, Ryo could not react as quickly as usual so the man managed to get up and run away.
There was something odd: when Ryo catched the running form, he touched something smooth, soft, agreeble...
It was like a ... a breast ?!
A woman !?
What ???
He was Ryo Saeba, the 'Stud of Shinjuku' and he couldn't recognize a woman miles away !!!
Was he ill?
Or was he getting old?
Why didn't his mokkori radar react properly?
'Ryo, are you all right?' Hideyuki hurried beside him.
'A woman... It was a woman... and I had to touch her to make this statement!' Ryo was drawn.
Hideyuki and Saeko looked at each other. They had never seen Ryo behaving like that.
'You have to leave now: the police will soon come.'
'You are right, Saeko. Come on, Ryo. You must be a little tired. After some rest, everything will come back to normal.' Hideyuki tried to comfort his friend.
Hidden in a dark corner, she watched the two men walking away. The taller guy was still complaining. She was still wondering how she could have escaped from him. She felt his strenght when he caught her. It fact, it wasn't only strenght. It was a kind of brutality, even bestiality. When they both fell on the pavement, she knew he would have no pity for her. And she felt helpless, strenghtless. That time, more sharply than ever...
It was his surprise that saved her. He didn't expect her to be a woman. Her instinct was telling her that he would look for her. He wasn't that kind of man that would drop someone down. Especially ennemies. She had to escape from his hands. Anyhow. But she had to do her duty also. Otherwise... She shook her head: she didn't want to think about what might happen if she failed in her job. She felt trapped. But wasn't that a very familiar feeling for her?
She observed the woman hurrying back to the burnt house. She wondered who she were. She was now commanding policemen and firemen. Before that, she was with two men who hurried to leave before the police arrived. What game was that woman playing? That would be interesting to know.
The policemen were hurrying all over the place, trying to find proofs. It was time for her to leave.
She got up carefully, verifying that her ankle would support her. It got injured during the fall and was still painful. Fortunately, it wasn't serious. It was just a bad scratch. And it was no more bleeding. A simple bandage would be enough.
She hurried away, as quickly as she could, still hidden by the darkness.
'Did you find him?'
- Yes, General. But, we do not know if Saeeba would work for us.
- What do you mean?
- He may work for the police. But we are nnot sure.
- I want to know more about that. Hurry upp. And what about the others?
- They won't bother us anymore, General..''
'Miss Nogami, the headofficer wants you in his office.'
'Coming.'
Saeko was reluctant to see her father. She wondered why he asked for her.
She felt very tired. She could only sleep a bit last night because of the blast. And she was angry also, because she could find no clue. She hoped Hideyuki could get information about that.
'Ah... Saeko. Come in.'
Saeko was surprised by her father's joyfully attitude. At office (and even at home), he was always stressed. Maybe a good news? Or a new pretender?
A woman came near her. She was as tall as she was. Her long and dark hair was let loose. Her deep blue eyes were sharply cold. She was really elegant and somehow sober with her dark suit.
'Lieutenant Kaliz, here's Lieutenant Saeko Nogami. She's working on the same case as yours. She'll inform you about her findings.
- Glad to meet you.' Saeko hold out her haand.
'So am I' Tanya and Saeko shook their hands, starring at each other.
'Please, follow me. I was told that you would arrive in two days.' Saeko showed her the way.
'I prefered coming here as soon as possible. I could get no more information in Germany.
- I see. It is also difficult here. Let uss hope we will be luckier.' Saeko tried to be polite.
Looking down, Saeko noticed a bandage around Tanya's ankle, hidden by her trousers.

Hello,
I finally finished it. It is not that easy to write a story. It needs a big commitment. It is like bringing up a little child: it needs a lot of attention, care and imagination.
I hope you enjoyed it. I wait for your comments, good ones I hope.
Bye !
