I almost cancelled our trip to Hawaii, because I was still pretty shook up over 9/11 and getting on a plane at National Airport in DC seemed like the scariest thing to do at the time.  But, I am soooo glad we didn't back out.  Hawaii is the experience of a lifetime!!  Honolulu, is a glorious city in the Pacific.  Matt and I spent three nights and fours days on the island of Oahu, but we didn't really leave Waikiki Beach, except for our nightly Sushi run (the Japanese influence there is quite amazing, with the sushi being as fresh as it is in Japan).  The Hilton Hawaiian Village was spectacular and our views were absolutely amazing from the hotel.
Maui is by far the most beautiful place I have ever seen.  We had tons of fun snorkeling, eating sushi, and relaxing in the vibrant blue waters that make this island so famous.  If you ever get the chance to go to Hawaii, do not pass up spending time on the beaches of Maui.  I can't wait to go back there someday.
Warning!!!  Do not book cheap rooms from Frommer's Budget Travel that have the words "Buddhist" and "B&B" on the same line.  You won't be able to tell from the picture, but Akiko's was a very scary (albeit cheap) place.  We also realized that when you visit the Big Island, you need to really stay in Kona (dry and sunny) as opposed to Hilo (which is really rainy)  Oh well.  At least the volcanos were awesome!!
