1959 Gold Nugget
I found this photo of the DBR1 on the net somewhere to show the Gold Nugget configuration.
I took a photo of the Gold Nugget to match the web photo. Then overlaid them in Photoshop as layers.
I showed the steps it took to build it using these 1/12 scale models. Wish I had kept them but you can't save everything.
In high school I gave a speech using the Gold Nugget. I built a corner of the rear end in 1/12 scale.
Here's a detail photo of the motor. Dual Chrysler hemis WHAT ELSE ?? The frame is made from coat-hanger wire and some spring steel triangles added.
Smokey explains the outdoor photo.
" Two tripods are used. The first shot is of the model setting on a piece of model pavement mounted on one tripod. Crank it into a position so that the model pavement is 1/25 lower than the camera lens (60mm) than the real pavement (1500mm). Set the camera on macro and shoot. Move the car tripod out of the way and shoot the background without macro. Using Photoshop layers erase everything on the model layer except for the model and pavement shadow."  Email questions.
Piranha
Some 5 years later came the only funny car that's slightly similar was by a collaboration of AMT, Gene Winfield and Fred Smith. The
AMT Piranha. was recently reissued as seen here.
