Featured in September 1964 Car Model Magazine.

The car was based on Ron Rodden's cover car of the May 1961 Rod & Custom magazine. I had an SMP '60 Vette that was already customized and had to change it into a '57 first off. Changes include quad headlight to single, the hood is a different shape and the area behind the front wheel wells. Then the hood, doors, trunk and soft-top lid were cut open and hinged. I referred to a full sized '57 vette for the door jambs, hood dimensions and soft top operation. I think the chrome windshield frame is from a 57 T-Bird. Painted yellow with pearl overcoat and handmade decals. A small detail slipped by, there are no tail-lights which were the '57 lights relocated on the real thing.
I recently found this car featured in June 1960
Motor Trend article.
The Original custom was Pactra Kandy Red.
The Tigervette was a recycled model. The original was a Candy Apple Custom. I gave Car Model Magazine bad info saying I used '59 Corvette but was a '60 annual. The rims and roll bar came from an original AMT '57 BelAir. The pinstriping on the nose was cut down from another decal. The black scalloping was made from model airplane decal stock. The trunk was done in flat black and yellow taped stripes. The door panels and chassis pan and truck are all paper.

PS: The '60 annual has since been marketed as a '59 as several reissues. The original '59 was a screw down promo style kit.

This model is being rebuilt in the summer of 2009 from an AMT 57 Vette. Stay tuned.
