The Portal
What if I told you that there were portals to other worlds? Sounds crazy huh? You’re probably thinking, "What is she insane or something?" Yeah, that’s what I thought too. But that was before I actually found one. It was a sunny, bright day in June and school had just let out for summer vacation.

Walking home with an armload of books and papers, I was thinking of all the fun things I was going to do. I had just rounded the corner of Maple and Elk when I heard a voice. "Help meeeee…" Puzzled, I glanced around. "Hello?" I called. "Anyone there?" No answer. I shrugged and continued walking. Suddenly a huge gust of wind blew my papers all over the street. I grumbled and bent down to pick them up. Then I heard the voice again. "Megan…..Help meeeeeeeee….." Jerking my head up, I gasped and looked around again. "H-How did you know my name?" I stammered. Then a bright green light caught my eye.

Curious, I cautiously stepped toward it. It was a large circular light in the middle of the street. Slowly I reached out to touch the light with my hand and my hand disappeared into it! I cried out and yanked my hand back. But the gust of wind blew again, this time much, much stronger and it caused me to stumble headfirst into the green light! Screaming, I fell into oblivion. It seemed like I was falling forever. Just then I crashed into the ground.

Dizzy, and sore I slowly sat up. I peered around me and I became so confused, my head hurt. It looked like I was in my room! But how could that be? I sat down on "my" bed and scratched my head. Then I heard that eerie voice again that had called to me, but it wasn’t speaking directly to me. I looked around for the…person? I looked around the whole room, when I saw the window. I slid off the bed and crept over to it. "No." I gasped. The windows had steel bars on them.

I whirled around to run to the door when I realized, it wasn’t a real door. It was a wall with a door painted on it. My knees buckled and my tears flooded with tears. I crawled to a corner of the room and drew my knees up to my chest. Then I heard that voice again. Trembling, I listened to it. "As we approach the next exhibit in our Universal Zoo, we see that this is a fine specimen from the planet Earth. It was only a little while ago today that we acquired this Earthling, so it might be a little shy .But I time it will adjust to its new surroundings, and be more willing to entertain you…."

Raising my head in horror, the voice faded out as I saw out the window. There were creatures standing out there looking in at me. They were bright green, had spikes all over their body, and had 5 arms and 18 eyes. As they walked away, I realized that I was going to be here for a long, long time.
