| Born as Calvin Broadus on October 20,'72.He was nicknamed Snoop by his mother because of his apperance.Snoop was born and raised in Long Beach, California,where he often got into trouble with the law and shortly after his high school graduation got arrested for possession of coke. During a three year stretch he was often put in jail,so he used music to get away from his problems. So he began recording demo tapes with friend Warren G,who is Dr,Dre's step brother. Warren gave a tape to Dr.Dre,which impressed him and he decided to put Snoop on one of his own songs. |
| While recording his first album "Doggystyle" he was arrested in connection to the shooting of Phillip Woldermarian.After the MTV Music Awards in September '93,he turned himself in. After many delays "Doggystyle" was finally released in November '93which eventually became quadruple platinum.During '95 he prepared for the case,which went into trial in late '95.But in February '96 Snoop was cleared of all charges and started working on his second album.Due to the death of friend and fellow rapper Tupac Shakur the sales of gangsta rap dropped dramatically causing "The Doggfather" to sell very poorly. After his second release Snoop began to revamp his public image,moving away from gangsta rap and towards a calmer lyrical aesthetic. he also made gestures towards the rock community.He got with another producer and recorded Top Dogg in '98. |
