Australia – The Land Down Under

Hands-down the best foreign county I visited in the Pacific.  Sure, they speak the same language (sort of) and, frankly, much of their modern culture is almost depressingly American.  But even setting aside these biases, Australia is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen and the Aussies are extremely pleasant hosts.  Sydney is a remarkable gem of a major city; beautiful to behold and expensive as hell to obtain.  But it’s worth the trip.

Australia has more unspoiled, deserted beaches than you can shake a didgeridoo at.

A view of downtown Sydney from the harbor.

If you didn’t know this was the famous Sydney Opera House, hang your head in shame.

Just to prove that I was there….

A view of the Botanical Gardens from the top of the Intercontinental Hotel.  A nice place to stay.

The harbor and Opera House from the Intercontinental.  Can you spot the old-time square-rigger ship in the harbor?  It’s near the Opera House….
