Some Simplified Rules for U-10 Soccer Penalties The other team will get a free kick if you: a. Use your hands (except for goalies) b. Trip a player from the other team c. Hold a player from the other team d. Kick a player from the other team e. Push a player from the other team too roughly f. Kick a ball with your foot up near another player’s head (dangerous play) g. Head the ball at waist level or below (dangerous play) h. Try to kick the ball while laying on the ground (dangerous play) i. Any other dangerous play j. Display bad sportsmanship You must be at least 5 yards away from the ball when the other team makes a free kick. Throw-ins If the other team kicks the ball over a touchline, your team gets a free throw-in. To do a throw-in correctly, the ball must be held by both hands, start completely behind your head, go directly over your head, and both of your feet must remain on the ground If you don’t do a throw-in correctly, then the other team gets to throw the ball in. Usually, but not always, the referees will give you 1 do-over at the U-10 level. Corner kicks A corner kick is a free kick awarded to the attacking team if the defending team kicks the ball over the end-line. What this means is, if you kick the ball over your own end-line (the end of the field with the goal that you are defending), the other team gets a corner kick. If the other team kicks the ball over their own end-line, your team gets a corner kick. To make a corner kick, the ball is placed at the corner of the field nearest where the ball went out of play, and the free kick is taken. Goal kicks A goal kick is a free kick awarded to the defending team if the attacking team kicks the ball over the end-line. What this means is, if you kick the ball over the other team’s end-line (the end of the field with the goal that you are attacking), the other team gets a goal kick. If the other team kicks the ball over your end-line, then your team gets a goal kick. To make a goal kick, the ball is placed anywhere in the goal area, usually on the boundary line farthest from the end-line, and the free kick is taken. |
