Or, "What has Gareth been doing this week?"
Usenet links
Just to be contrary and because, lets be honest, the web is
essentially enormously overrated, these links are nearly all
Usenet links. On the down side, that means if you click on them,
you'll have to read news with a wretched newsreader, like those within
Netscape and MS Outlook. Yuck. Get
yourself a real newsreader.
On the plus side, unlike the web, you may find yourself interacting
with real people. Here, then are the places my opinions are most
likely to be found. There is also the odd ftp site thrown in.
- Music Groups
Discussion about pop music, which anyone who knows me can attest that
I can do at great length, without pausing for breath or listening to
what any else is saying.
- alt.fan.elvis-costello
For fans of Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus, the Little Hands Of
Concrete. Very quiet of late and full of trolling. Most of the
worthwhile stuff has gone to the mail list(s).
-
rec.music.makers.guitar.tablature
The place from where much
of the stuff at OLGA sprang, this newsgroup carries requests and
postings of transcriptions.
- alt.guitar.tab
rec.music.makers.guitar.tablature's scruffy brother.
- USENET Links
- alt.fan.warlord
A meta newsgroup. Postings about other postings. Strangely quiet
these days, but still a repository of some of the highest quality.
- The
alt.fan.warlord FAQ
Discover what YHGMTPOAFW stands for. HTH. HAND. A web page, but
about Usenet.
- alt.humor.best-of-usenet
Another mixed bag, but usually with a few good one liners, or the
more inspired bits of kibology.
- Radio Links
- uk.media.radio.bbc-r4
Slag off Richard Littlejohn, a David Mellor for the lobotomised.
You might as well, it's all anyone else does. I've read radio
uk.media.radio.bbc-r5 since it was newgrouped and I can't recall
a single word in support of the intolerant git.
- Computer Links
- comp.emacs
The third port of call (after the online manual/FAQ and M-x
apropos
) for all things emacs. Full of well informed
people who can help.
- gnu.emacs.gnus
See comp.emacs, but specialising in the cognoscenti's newsreader.
- Token WWW links.
