Hi, there. My name is DR. MUHAMMAD NAJIB BIN MOHAMAD ALWI. I graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia School of Medical Sciences in 1992 (7th Batch) and then did my Housemanship in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia. Yes, very loyal indeed! In order to widen my vision of the world, I decided to further my study in the UK. I studied in London (attached to Charing Cross Medical School, later affiliated under the Imperial College) and did my MSc in Clinical Psychiatry and Research there. At the same time I also studied and alhamdulillah managed to get the MRCPsych as well. Very lucky indeed! I came back to become a lecturer at my alma mater in December 1999 and am very proud to be at one of Malaysia's best medical schools.
My main area of interest is Psychotherapy (especially Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Personal Construct Psychotherapy) and Adolescent Psychiatry. But I'm also very keen on Neuropsychiatry and Psychogeriatrics. More recently, I've decided to do a 180 degrees turn, to focus on Rehabilitation Psychiatry. My current area of research is on the usage of Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) to ameliorate cognitive deficits in Schizophrenia.
My other interests....
Well, I have many interests. Up to 2005 I was deeply involved in the USM medical alumni (PADU) as the 2nd President and Life Member. We want as much as possible to help the school / HUSM in any small way that we can. If you want to know about this association that I'm very proud off as an ex-student of USM please visit PADU's website : www.padu.net .
I am also the current President of the Kelantan Psychological Medicine Association (PERSIKOL). Our main objective is to promote mental health activities and fight stigmatization against psychiatric patients. Our members include doctors, nurses, relatives of patients and even a few ex-patients too! We also have people from the public who are interested in mental health related activities as members.
In terms of sports, I used to play hockey for the medical school with fellow friends. I miss my team-mates very much now that they are everywhere and mostly busy with their profession. Other sports that I like to watch whenever I can include the F1 Racing, football, rugby and cricket.
Finally, I hope visitors will find some of the information presented on this website beneficial. Thank you.
