Chapter 9
"So," Joey
said kinda nervously,"How's everything going?"
"Pretty well
actually. I'll start physical therapy as soon as possible." Brian really
didn't know what to say to him. After all, they never talked very much.
"Joey, can we take a detour before going back to my room?"
"Brian, I think
you need some rest buddy."
"I know, but I
need to see Nick one more time before I go to sleep."
"Fine, really
quick though."
"Deal"
"Hey Nick, Look
who's here to see you?" Joey said bringing Brian to his bedside.
"Thanks Joey.
Can you do me one more big favor?"
"Sure
what?"
"Can you find
one of those teenager EMT's. His name is Jamie Waite. If he's not here that's
fine, but if he is could you ask him to come up here?"
"...sure
Brian."
As Joey left, Brian
began to concentrate on Nick. Somewhere deep inside him, he had a deep secret.
One that no one will ever be able to pry from him, but Brian hope he would be
able to.
"Nicky, It's Bri. I know what you're going through. I wish you would wake
up. I really do. I miss you buddy. I can help you, trust me."
Brian couldn't hold back his tears anymore. They just started pouring down like
a waterfall. Just then he heard a noise behind him. He turned around and in the
doorway was his family. His mom came up to him and kissed the top of his head.
She didn't know what he was going through and it made her angry that she could
take away his pain. They said nothing to each other. Jackie just put her arms
around him and let him cry in her arms.
"Babyduck, Everything's gonna be alright. I promise you. O.K. Have I ever
lied to you?"
"Well....now
that I think about it..." Brian gave a little laugh through his tears.
That's when his dad and brother knew it would be alright to go over.
"He little
bro," Harry said. "When will you be back up?"
"Really
soon."
"Hey
Brian," his dad said,"how are ya holding up?"
"Not too well. I
really wish Nick would wake up soon."
"We all
do." Jackie said as Joey walked back into the room.
"Jamie's not
here right now, and I was told to bring you back to your room," Joey
scolded.
"Fine, come with
me guys?" Brian asked his family.
"Of
course," Harry said.
As they started to
leave, Jackie was the last person out, "Please wake up Nick," she
whispered at the doorway,"you and Brian really need each other now."
She then closed the door and followed everyone up to Brian's room.
Brian slept with no
nightmares, only memeories. He dreamed of him and Nick playing b-ball,
something they wouldn't be able to do for a long time. After Nick wakes up,
Brian knew that it would be a long time until he would be able to play. This
made him cry. By his bed, his mom sat watching her son sleep. She saw the tear
trickle down his cheek and it was then she knew this would be much, much harder
than anyone thought it would be.
"This is John Norris with an MTV News brief... I have updated news on the
terrible car crash concerning the Backstreet Boys that occured a little more
than a month ago. During an exclusive half hour special, four of the five guys
will be interviewed by Bryan McFadden about this accident and more. Kevin,
Howie, and A.J., who will be released shortly, are schedualed to appear along
with Brian who will have to go back to the hospital afterwards. Unfortunately,
heart-throb Nick Carter had not changed since the accident and is still in a
coma. Be sure to catch this special-live interview on MTV. This has been an MTV
new brief with John Norris, 10 to the hour, every hour."
As Howie, A.J. and Lance watched the tv it was completely silent.
"I can't believe Brian okayed to an
interview." A.j. said surprised.
"Yeah, me too. Kev must be angry. He starts
therapy this week and Kev said he shouldn't go and that he should rest."
Howie was still astonished by this news.
"Well you know 'B' he'll do anything to
get Kev pissed."
"Yeah. What do you think Lance?"
"I told him to go for it. I figured he
would do it anyways, why not just keep him on my good side and agree with
him."
"Good idea," A.J. said. "When
we're at the interview and Brian asks me what I think, I'll agree with
him."
"A.J. with your luck he'll
be mad anyways," Howie said. That brought up the spirits of all of them.
While they all seemed as if they were enjoying themselves, deep inside not one
of them believed Brian was ready for this Physically or emotionally.
