What Constitutes Abuse

The following list was taken from the APP, some of the behavior may not be considered by the court as abuse however, it still may be used to show that you have the tendency/track record of abusive behavior.

Verbal Abuse:

• Yelled at her
• Accused her of "screwing around"
• Called her other names: What?
• Called her stupid
• Threatened to harm kids
• Called her a "Whore"
• Threatened sexual abuse
• Called her a "bitch"
• Threatened physical harm
• Called her a "cunt"
• Threatened to use weapons
• Called her a "slut"
• Threatened to kill her

Psychological Abuse:

• Following and checking up on her
• "Blow" money on alcohol/drugs
• Not allow her to have money
• Hit objects like wall or table
• Threaten divorce unless complies
• Express intense jealousy
• Put down or insult her family
• Try to control her in any way
• Take car keys, money, checkbook
• Come home drunk or high
• Refusing to keep a job
• Prevent her from working
• Threaten to destroy property
• Not allowed her to use car
• Require reports of where she was
• Put down or insult her friends
• Prevent her from seeing her family
• Harm, threaten or neglect pet
• Threaten to take the children
• Question her every expense
• Prevent her from going to school
• Throw or break objects to hurt her
• Not allowed her to use phone
• Ask who she was with or talked to
• Prevent her from seeing her friends
• Drive recklessly to frighten her
• Manipulate her with lies
• Threaten to harm the children

Physical Abuse:

• Pinned her against wall
• Push or shove her
• Pulled her hair
• Bang her head on wall
• Kick or knee her
• Burn her
• Attack her with objects
• Try to hit her with car
• Held her against her will
• Slapped or spanked her
• Punched her with fist
• Banged her head on floor
• Hit her while pregnant
• Try to drown her
• Attack her with a knife
• Push her out of car
• Grabbed or carried her
• Bite or scratched her
• Twist her arm
• Try to choke her
• Stand or sit on her
• Throw something at her
• Attack her with a gun
• Abuse her children
