Hap. Nyererei
This picture is a female nyererei holding eggs in her mouth. Note the distended lower jaw area. She has been holding 7 days at this point. Vertical bars are very vivid. After about 16 days the fry were either swallowed or consumed as none were found. The other possibility is that the juvenile males were not able to fertilize the eggs yet. This has now happened twice. These fish are EXTREMELY timid except for feeding time and will seek cover whenever approached. The female displays dark color with a slight red?green tinge on the dorsal. My male has yet to color up
